When I turn the key to the on position I can see the gas gauge needle move about 1mm. So I go fill her up to see if the float might be stuck. No dice. So I crawled under the truck to see if I could find the wires to the sending unit. I couldn't find them. Then discovered my new truck has what looks to be a custom gas tank made out of steel. It measures 42" long, 26.5" wide, and 11 high. That works out to 52.5 gallons. It is entirely box shaped. Couldn't that cause problems with fuel pickup? I put in $105 bucks and only got 43 gallons to go in her. I was suprised the pump didn't cut off. They usually do around $75. Might be because I was at a truck stop and they expect you to use a lot of gas. So now I get to carry a gas can around with me so when it runs out I can pull the gas tank and check out the sending unit. The tank probably weighs 100-150 pounds without any gas in it. I'll use a tranny jack to lower it down. No wonder the rear of my 'burban sits lower than the front.

mine is just like that..kinda sucks the life from your wallet...lol

Tell me about it. Once I figured out that it holds 52 gallons that means a fill-up is gonna run me $125.

So you don't have a problem with your pickup with a flat bottom tank?

My sons burb and my two burbs all have that huge tank. I remember the first time I filled one of those babys up...drained the ol wallet for sure.

If you had a smaller tank, you wouldn't feel the pinch at the wallet, but you can't go as far either...

I have that tank.

But I only drive mine about 20 or so miles a week, so I put the 75 bucks in and dont fill it up for weeks....

If you want a smaller tank, only put in 25 gallons. then you can feel like you have a smaller tank..

As for the gas gauge, well fahgedaboudit!
