Paint Removal

I want to strip my down the paint on my column. Beside sanding it down is there something else I can use? Would mineral spirits do it?

Thanks

Re: Paint Removal

i wouldn't bother with a chemical stripper it would be messier and take longer to stip neutralize and cleanup compared to a few minutes with sandpaper to prep a steering column for painting

Re: Paint Removal

Yellow 3M Roloc Bristle Disc...I LOVE THESE THINGS...

The White is fine (very little abrasive) yellow is medium, and green is coarse... These things remove light rust and paint VERY well but don't mar the surface and take off a much of steel that would otherwise require smoothing before painting.

I use these to remove paint over a dent so I can use my stud welder to pull the dent out

Re: Paint Removal

I used all three on a 4x4 rally rim this weekend. I used a gel stripper which got of the rattle can paint. Then a wire wheel on my drill to remove the rest of the factory finish. Then a little fine tuning sanding with some 150 grit. I cleaned then painted a Rustoleum Satin Black.
