got a new parts truck but now hate to part it out.....BUT no title

heres somes pics of 87 c30 with 454 TBI, thats why i bought it. Guy told me story of divorce and how both names were on title and he never got the title and that if i came and looked at it and it wasnt what he said i didnt have to take it, i hadnt even saw pic of it at this time. I was also anout 200 miles from it. Needless to say I was pleased with it. Now too pleased. Anyway the plan is for motor and tranny to go in 84 1/2 ton i bought with no motor, it was ready to paint before the previous owner blew motor and its set for awhile. So now i need to start doin some sanding.

Re: got a new parts truck but now hate to part it out.....BUT no title

I can tell you what I'd do.... eBay it off at a HUGE profit to one of many states that don't require a title such as Maine and New Hampshire.... Folks in the north will pay dearly for a rust-free piece like that. Depending on what you have invested, the cash generated may buy one hell of a crate engine. I've got a hunch that you may be approaching 502 territory here.

Oh yeah, my neighbor wants that old Ford in the backdrop.

yeah there is no way in hell I would part that out. Title or not. I would be figuring out how to get one. Make the guy you bought it from apply for a lost title or something... do some research.

I think it's only fair to sent the WHOLE truck to 1bad chevy for him to tool around in while he is get the title stuff squared away.....then when the registration comes in..... Then it can come down here to RI.....

Re: got a new parts truck but now hate to part it out.....BUT no title

Hey

Before you get crazy by going to Vermont you can do a title search. There are online tools that anyone can use. You can find who was the last registered owner and get affidavit from them (if you can find them). DMV will accept that in instead of bill of sale - and issue replacement title. If you dig into you states DMV rules and procedures they probably have a procedure that must be satisfied for missing title and or bill of sale paperwork. You will have to do some leg work, but it can be done if you are willing to spend some time (a little bit of money). The most important part in this thing is to very patient, especially with DMV people!

I used this service to find previous owners:
http://www.abika.com/Reports/vehicleownership.htm

There are many other title searches:
http://www.eztitlesearch.com/
http://www.dmv.org/

In old day (before Internet) finding the last registered owner was a real pain, but now it is a little bit easier.

RF

Since both spouse are on original title - you can find divorce decree paper work - it is a public information with a court. Get a copy of divorce decree from a court and final settlement will have division of communal property. If the guy got a truck in his settlement decree your problems are gone! Or otherwise you have to chase the dame down.
