manifold carb swap
whas anyone in here (im sure there has) deleted computer controlled carb and just went to a regular set up minus all the usless vaccum hoses. My transmission 700r4 has already been set up to run separatley from the ecm with no problems. Now i want to get rid of all the cludder. I have an edelbrock avs thunder and performer manifold just sitting in the garage right now.

Re: manifold carb swap
not sure how to help you man, mine wasn't computer controlled but,i just installed a new air gap and 1406 edelbrock, all non egr.us hillbillies up here in warshington ain't got no smog test like you big city feller's. seriously, for non egr all you need for vacum lines, are your power brake booster too the back of carb on edelbrock and vacum advance on front passenger side and a pcv valve off big port in front.my th 350 has a line to modulator also.i'm not sure about your 700.but somebody will chime in on that.that's all i'm running.hope it helps

yes i have, by balzer was computer controled port tune injeted. took it it of but the bolt holes on the heads are diffent then most heads around the carb.
The 4 bolts around the carb that hold the manaifold down are more up and down then the normal slant u must get a different intake edelbroke makes one at autozone i paid 209 for it. I dont remember the numbers ill look and repost them. But yes it possiable and i like it |

Re: manifold carb swap
alot of people rank on those heads.on the camaro forum i visit, you'd think they came off a yugo or something..they say stuff like "those heads don't make any power after 5,000 rpm"...b.f.d....mine runs good.that's all i care.only time i it hit 5000 the back tires are spinning.

Re: manifold carb swap
I have a 3701 manifold. Basically im technically able to do it parts wise. Will removing the smog stuff create a check engine light. I had an 84 vette that i took off all the smog stuff and the check engine light never came on and it was tbi . I know it worked because i never disconnected the check engine light bulb. But for this computer controlled carb (if you can call it that) im not sure about. Also i find that im not getting great gas mileage on the 305. Whats the average mpg for these things.

Re: manifold carb swap
my mpg was 13.3 mpg on my 305 (it was old and on it last legs) the 3701 maniflod is for 1986 and earlier. On engines of 1987-95 the heads have the canted center bolt holes around the carb/tpi if that ur engine ur manifold wont fit. You will need Performer (EGR) #3706 it has the bolt holes that will fit those heads.
computerize/ TPI engines were started in 1987 From what i can tell. |

Re: manifold carb swap
I have a 1986 chevy short bed. I have a few options in mind. I will just stick on the edelbrock manifold and keep the e4me carb. ( maybe it needs a rebuild) or go with the full edelbrock avs carb and edlebrock manifold and just delete the computer. It seems rather primitive.
