aftermarket fenders

has anyone here used the aftermarket/repo front frnders for a 68?
do they fit well? what is the best brand to buy from?
what are NOS parts?

don't know about the fenders but I do know that NOS means "new old stock" that means its an original oem part thats old but never used. hope that helps

New Old Stock.Check the board sponsoring vendors.Where are you located?There may be one near to you.There`s alot of smoke and mirrors with sheetmetal.These guys will steer you straight.

I used them on my 67, same thing, just minus the side markers. I got mine from Goodmark, they are Tri-Plus fenders. I was happy with them. Click the build thread in my signature for more pictures that you could want

They take some persuasion, but patience and persistence will give a nice fit and completely rust free fenders.

If you can find NOS parts I'd go that route. I used some tri plus fenders on my 67 and it took alot of work to get them lined up with the bolt holes on the original hood and grill. Plus they aren't as thick.

I installed an aftermarket fender on the passenger side of my truck, 67 version. I had to do a fair amount of work to make it right. The area around the headlight needed help. It was about 3/8" off where it meets the grill [circled area], and there were wrinkles in the indention to the outside of the headlight that I beat down and fixed [arrow]. I also installed aftermarket inner fenders and this fender and inner did not want to meet up at all. I had to drill three new holes in the inner to make if fit the fender lip, it was a battle but its on and looks right now.

(Better) Rust Free perfect / fixable OEM sheet metal

(Best) NOS - There is no aftermarket equivalent

I searched and found good useable original panels for my 71 instead of going the aftermarket route.

cstm68 - you are very lucky to have 3 good vendors near you. In Everette check out Dreamers/PickupsNW. They are not a board supporter but very close to you on old Hiway99.

These next 2 are board membrs and supporters. In Olympia there is Pickmup and in Tumwater you have Wes at ClassicHeartbeat. Both are a little further from you but both support the board. Do a search and check out both of them.

Then there are numerous fellows who sell used parts not mention several junkyards that usually have a couple of trucks.

I agree with LUV on the quality thing. GOOD used usually fits better than Repops.

Don't forget about the swap meets at Monroe, Puyallup, and Portland.

With all these sorces you should have no problem finding parts.

I have a 68 front fender on the right side from LMC, it fits better with the gm core support and grille than my nos left side fender fits.

I have both after market fenders on my 68 along with alot of other parts. I've heard of all kinds of horror stories about the repo parts but after searching for oem and nos and finding none suitable I went the after market way. I went into mine expecting to have trouble and knowing that I wasn't using oem parts so it wasn't that bad to me,just keep in mind if you go this route to give it a few good dry runs on the mock up and be sure to stretch all the mounting holes before doing any body work take notes and pics on the prob areas so you will remember what to smooth out ect. This my sound a little to the extreme but if you'll do some of these things before the final preps are done you won't have any problems.

This is good info since I bought a new drivers side fender for my 68 and will be putting it on soon. Now I know what to expect.

I wish I had all the fenders I scraped because of rusted front cups.I replaced them with either N.O.S. or clean OEM.We always figured,"why do all the work to repair them when you can just bolt a good one on.I`venever used aftermarket,still have a set of N.O.S.`69-72s.I`m building a`67 GMC that started as a clip I came across and bought for the grille & support.The only rust on the original paint (Palamino Tan) fenders is the one cup under the battery.The driver side has a crease in the flatest area behind and above the wheel opening.I just couldn`t quit throw them out and I`m glad.I`ll bring`em back.
