What would you do?
I don't know about you all but I love tax season!
Anyways, I'm planning on putting part of my return towards my truck and this is where I need some input. I'm weighing 3 options at the moment: Option 1) Convert to front discs and replace the 3 spd manual with an automatic. Option 2) Body work and fresh paint. I'm talking driver paint job here, not show quality. Option 3) This is the most radical option. I might be able to get my hands on a short box frame with 5 lug discs along with the bed. So I've been thinking about throwing my running gear and cab onto the shorty frame. I'm really thinking about #3 right now but there's a part of me that is hesitant to chop up a perfectly good LWB. What would you do? |

Re: What would you do?
I had choices to make on my budget too and I chose to go through each vital system,ie. brakes, ignition, fuel, suspension and get each in as close to perfect as possible so I wouldn't have to be constantly bothered by stuff going bad. It cost me a lot actually but that was 9 years ago and I have had very few problems since. Unless you have done this I would consider such an approach. So without knowing the condition of,say, your ball joints, brake drums, master cylinder, dist.bushing etc,I can't say I like any of your options.Sorry, jmho

Re: What would you do?
3 first, if that doesn't work out 1 because if you do 2 before 1, you will probably end up having more body/paint work to do becuase drums don't stop worth a sh-t.

Re: What would you do?
I don't mind the long bed but we all know the shorty's are more in demand.
WorkingLonghorn: Good point, I didn't really specify about the brake conversion but I'd plan on installing pretty much all new hardware (front end kit) along with the discs. Might as well since I'd have everything apart. Last edited by Ole Blue 68; 02-20-2007 at 04:13 PM. |

Be glad you have those options and don't owe any money.

Re: What would you do?
Well, someone has to be different. I would go for 2. Disc brakes would be very nice, but I would love to have a 3 speed.

Only more in demand if you're planning on sellin it. Which would YOU rather have? Personally I like my LWB because my bikes fit in the bed better than in my 05 SWB. But that's me. It's just a matter of what you prefer more.

Re: What would you do?
1 or 3. If you want a short bed go for 3. If you really like a long bed then go for number 1.

I'd prefer a SWB but I still like my truck. And while I don't plan on selling it anytime soon I'll probably wind up selling it eventually. |

Re: What would you do?
Mix 1 and 3.Do the disc brake conversion and buy the SWB frame.Save a while and try to find a parts truck with an auto and decent cab. Then you can build a SWB while driving the one you got.

Re: What would you do?
If you did #1 and #2 you could sell it and buy the short bed you want?
If you do a hack job and make a SWB odds are it won't be worth as much as an original SWB. Good luck, B |

Re: What would you do?
I'm with PanelDeland.
If the drivers dependable, you can build the shortbed the way you want it from the get go.

Re: What would you do?
go with your instinct, its your decision, sounds like you got a seriuos amount of return to do any of those, nice job. but wait a minute , you did ask what we would do , didnt ya? no doubt about it. #3 would be my choice by far outweighing the rest.......
