Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
I have 31*10.5*15 Big O tires now. With some old chrome rimes.
Consumer reports recommends these tires - Dunlop SP Sport 5000...I like them because they are relatively quiet with a lot of other good features. I am using my K10 as a daily driver. I want a nice ride, quiet ride. I like stock height and a decent looking rim. H78-15 were the stock tire on mine. What size rim? Why? Width? What width of tire (dependent on rim?)? Why? I ask you guys cause you are not selling me tires. Thanks

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
Are you wanting to get away from a flotation size?

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
If by flotation you mean the big airy balloon like tires...yes I do not want that look as they normally come with a loud whine as it rolls down the asphalt.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
H78-15 is about the same as p225-78-15, a narrow passenger tire, non radial bias ply tire and probably on 6-7in wheels

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
The 31x10.50x15 is pretty close to a 235/75/15. If you carry loads/tow, you probably want to go with an LT series tire. Do you like the overall dimensions of what you currently have? As a sidenote, I used to work for Big-O in North Ogden. They sold a lot of those Bigfoot tires.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
I think the current tires is too tall and robs me of lots of efficiency.
I desire to get back to stock size with a little more rubber on the road. Occasionally i may do a load...but it is not a hauler. My newbie post in my sig has pics...those tires are still on it.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
What is "Big-O"? Around here "Big-O" is the "Big-O" Dodge dealership.
Sorry, can't help with the tires, just curious.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
It's a tire shop, but they also sell wheels, do alignments etc. They are only out West as far as I know.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
Bob has the correct metric size to match your factory size. If your looking for something little wider you could try a 245/65 or 245/60. I run Michelin tires because they're quiet and provide a nice ride, but they do cost a bit.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
235s are pretty tiny on a stock rig. I'm running 235 85 R16s, which is a hair under 32".
237 75 R15 theoretical diameter is 28.8", but it varies. 31 is theoretically about 8% taller.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
If the stock were H78-15's....
What is that comparable size? I think personally for me...31's are too big...and 10.5 tires are too wide. They look good don't get me wrong...but they are just too big for my daily driver. Cheers, Tim

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
What I show in my picture is close as close to stock,I think. The P.O.(original) kept his stock since new.
Here they are on a nicer truck. But,I think it`s sitting higher than stock, making the tires appear smaller:

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
The 235/75x15 and the 255/70x15 have almost the same exact height/diameter. The 31x10.50x15 are about an inch taller than stock and definitely effects your speedo and power curve. If you want a little more width, but a reasonable tire the 255/70 (on an 7 or 8 inch rim) is the way to go in my opinion.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
this doesn't really answer your question per se...
but on my last 4x4 i was running 32x12.5 Dunlop mud rovers. on a 4x4, i like the knobby look, and these tires were super quiet, had an excellent wear characteristic, and Personally i think they were quieter than the AT's that were on it originally. I will definately buy these tires again I switched from the stock 16" wheels to 15's because the smaller wheel makes the tires look bigger, and it was easier for me to figure out the tire size compared to the metric system used by other tire sizes.

Re: Tires and Wheels - What is the difference?
Yeah I think that can use the excuse "It's a British thing." I had not seen spelling like that since last I was in Scotland.
