Removing a Complete Dash from 1972 C-10

Has anyone ever removed a complete dash unit out of a truck, and if so was it completely bolted in or has it been spot welded from the factory. My truck is a non-A/C truck and I found a nice A/C dash at the salvage yard "cheap". If it is a bolt in deal, and a few spot welds,,,I will remove it! If its anything more than that I will just have to settle for cutting up my dash.

You have a few of options.

1. Remove the whole dash, by removing the side bolts and drilling out the spot welds around the windshield. This means you will have to remove the glass.

2.Cut the dash under the pad along the dotted line, This leaves the windshield portion untouched. Install the new AC dash and weld up and the pad covers the joint.

3. The less but not necessary the easiest, Make templetes and cut holes for the three AC vents.

Thumbs up Re: Removing a Complete Dash from 1972 C-10

Thank You for the info. I will probably have them cut the dash out by cutting the firewall, pillars and the toeboards on the donor truck. Then I'll take my time and follow option #1 at home.

Thank You once again,,,,,just needed to know what I am getting into!!!
