I have been tearing into my cab and have found this and more...Has any of you had this problem and what have yall done about it?

Those darn cowl's , they let so many leaves and debri in and this is usually where it is all trapped for years and years to eventually cause what you have going on there. I installed a stainless steel mesh under the cowl and am glad I finally did, who knows how bad it looks on the inside, but nothing showing on the outside yet, good luck and dont stop there.

Can you get to that with the fender off?

My driver side is good, but my passenger side is nearly gone. I need to get on the back side to fix it before i do new kick panel speakers.

YEA! And every time it rains all the water from the windshield goes right down there. I took the cowl off and siliconed from the top, sprayed rust converter on from the inside and cross my fingers. Last rain, still had a little drip through but was a great improvement. Took my shop vac and stuck down into the fender, looked like a freakin' squirrel nest in the vac's canister, leaves from the kind of trees I don't even have around.

Just a bad design. Good luck.

Everyone has or had this problem If they own a 67-72 truck. The trucks are prone to rust due to the cowl area.

No what is the rusty brown stuff?

Just yankin your leg, I have seen it on trucks from back east but here in AZ, I'd be willing to sell that one and come out west to get a better one and not have to fix it, but thats, me.

Well after doing some cutting and looking this is what i found, now i know what is behind the cowl vent that you are not able to get tooo.. Now the questions is do i change it out with another vent kick panal or to i cut it out and plate over it. The fun begins

About 20 years ago I decided to do a "temporary repair" on my 69 that was rusted out in those same areas. I opened them up, sand blasted all the rusted areas down to clean metal, and fiberglassed over everything with a couple layers of resin and cloth. It has held up fine with no leaks or re-occuring rust. Probably better than It was originally since fiberglass won't rust.

I would imagine that there really is no reason for the cowl vents anymore. I do not even use mine. I may eventually cut them out, close them off and cuit the channel out (might save about 30 pounds). Then I can do the shaved cowl deal.

Or you could use the vent chamber for a speaker box and really give those kick panels a good use.
