Bob,

Any 73-87 truck or 73-91 Suburban, Blazer rear end will work. Heck you can even put a dually rearend if you want four tires!!
I would go for the older 12 bolt rearends over the 81+ 10 bolts. I swapped my stock 83 10 bolt for an older 12 bolt rear end. Gear ranges from 2.72 to 4.11 are available too.

dually rear wont bolt in because on those and on 4x4's the spring pad spacing is ony 40", yous is 42.5"

a 64-72 leaf rear wil bolt in under you truck, nut there are too problems with doing that: you must then use the 73-up Ubolts and plates, and also youl have to move one shock mount on one side only.

U joints may differ, maybe, depends on year and axe and yoke style. but conversion joints can be bought for anything nowadays

good luck

10 bolt ratios: 2.73(early to mid 80s mainly), 3.08(all years), 3.42(80;s and 90'), 3.73(unknown)
12 bolt: 2.76(not sure when), 3.07(all years), 3.40(around '77), 3.73(unknown)
