2wd or 4wd?

Ok, somebody is interested in my frame and i am on the fence about selling and going 2wd.

The negative is I get to start over, add more down time until completion, and I don't get paid for my time which I already expected. The positive, I get most my parts money back, to be able to start over build a 2wd, and I have never been a huge fan of off roading so the 2wd will fit my style better.

Here is my dilema. Forget 2wd are rarer, which is more appealing to you and why? I have seen both bring decent money for real nice ones so I am not concerned in the value of it.

I have both, one for show (Un-finished) and I just bought another one for
go, if I could rewind 2.5 years back I would have only one, it would be the
2wd, and it probably would not have been either that I own now, since it
is obvious I lack alot of the talents others here posses I'd bought it done.

I absolutely love my '72 4wd, but I don't use the 4wd and don't ever intend to take it off-road. As soon as I have the $, I plan to buy a completed and nice 2wd, hopefully bagged. I think I'd to go cruising and take it to some of the local hot rod shows in the summer. I've considered converting my '72, but I don't have the time or the skills. Part of me also likes the "stock" look it has.

4wd all the way. I am not a hardcore off roader by any means, but it is nice to be able to go various places that I know my 2wd truck will get stuck. Also nice for the snow.

Why have a fully restored 4-wheel drive? If you care about it or have a lot of money in it your are not going to take it out and bang it up. The gas mileage is going to suck so bad if it has a lift and gears you won't be able to drive it anywhere if you are like me. A 2-wheel drive can be driven anywhere with the proper setup of motor and gears. I drove mine over 5 hours from the house and it was a comfortable ride. The 4-wheel is going to ride like crap, and the 2 wheel would be worth more also. They both have there pros and cons you just have to figure out which you would rather have. I would rather have both. Just my 2 cents and a lot will not agree.

Anyway, I'd love to have both but I own a 4x4 and would never consider switchin it. Its not gonna be a detailed resto, but it will see some trail ridin and highway speeds of 75 mph, along with winter use. GM designed them to do this, and they do it just fine as I have drivin this truck in all these conditions with comfort for many years.
Because I only have the 1 I had to vote 4x4.

I don't have either, but since I live in socal I would choose a 2wd. I know if I lived somewhere I could go off-roading anytime I wanted and didn't have to drive an hour to do it, I would go the 4x4 route. I am contemplating buying a '70 jimmy 4x4 right now and converting it to a 2wd.

To each their own.. I like 2WD's my self and think the Blazer is the perfect platform for building a killer street rod. Great looks, plenty of room, tons of motor combo options and they get tons of attention and when set up right they handle great. I have a 70 2WD that is sitting and waiting for it's turn on the chopping block and it will be an all out show truck for my Company for a few years then just a family rod to go along with the others.
From your aviator you are more of the street kind of guy so I say build a sharp 2WD and you will never look back.

jkade, you ask why have a fully restored 4x4?

Simple answer is 'because you can'.

Having a lifted 4wd doesn't mean dealing with terrible ride quality or drive-ability either, it's all in the set up.

I'd hop into mine and drive it anywhere/any distance I would a 2wd.

"GQ" Rides smooth as glass, and actually gets good good gas mileage for
a motor in the 450 HP range, I have had her up to 80 w/ no issues at all.

It's all personal preference...I like 4x4s myself, because of the stance and well I just like them. And I don't believe any of us build these trucks for gas milage or a good ride...we just like the looks. Just my opinion.

Yes and no! I am building my 70 2WD for looks but it will also get around 20mpg and the ride should be like a fine tuned sports car as well. Can't tell you how or why But it will be one bad a$$ set up when it is ready for the show circut.

There is something about being in a lifted rig with the top of on a sunny day.

My 72 rides nice. It is a little bouncy (hence the screen name) but no wandering or bump steer. 100 times nicer than my two previous rigs which were both comfortable drivers too.

I have driven both and a 2wd is better for me. I live in AZ.. Nice roads and no snow. If I lived up North a 4wd would be sweet..

I own a 2wd, thanks to Luv, but I'm the lowered 20's type so that's why I'd prefer a 2wd. I've never owned or driven(in) a 4wd.

First off, I like both. I own a 72 4x4 and I plan to basically rebuild it, not necessarily a show stopper, but nice, good looking, reliable, and most importantly, usable. Don’t get me wrong, I will probably never take it rock crawling, but I plan to sling a little mud, sand, etc. I love to look at them, but I have never really desired to own a 2wd blazer. For whatever reason, I prefer for my next purchase to be a 2wd truck. I would love a swb fleetside to drop a big block into and set it up to blow away tuners from stop light to stop light. So I guess my preference is 4x4 K5 and 2wd C-10. To each his own…

My experience with 4x4 they do get you farther in to the woods off the main road before they do get STUCK or bottom out.. my .02%
