eastwoods chassis paint

I was just wondering if anyone has used eastwoods black chassis paint. If so, I would like some feed back. I plan on taking my truck apart to paint the frame and want to know if I should use this or something else.

I would like to know too. I am trying to decide betwen this and powder coating. But I think I like the idea that if I put in a step notch later I can just paint it insted of haveing to get the frame powdercoated again.

Re: eastwoods chassis paint

I've used POR15, Eastwood chassis paint and power coating. Of the 3, POR15 if installed correctly is the toughest in terms of holding power. Power coating looks the best but did scratch pretty easy when installing stuff. Eastwood was the cheapest and easiest to install as no special tools required. So I guess it all depends on what your application is trying to accomplish. POR15 spreads like ink but can be dangerous to use if not properly vented espcially if you would like to spray it on!!!!!! Eastwood went on OK but really is was just like any other paint. Powercoating was done professionally which costs some real bucks espcially if you have to have it sandblasted prior etc.
So---your call~~~. Huck

Re: eastwoods chassis paint

I used the eastwoods chassis paint kit on my frame, mainly because it was in my budget and was pleasantly suprised with the outcome. The two part was easy to measure and use, the rest of the paint was mixed already, but went on with out any trouble for me. You can see what the paint looks like if you click on my build thread, link in my sig

Re: eastwoods chassis paint

Eastwood has a number of products for chassis coating. The rust converter is the two part coating that would be similar to a POR-15 type of surface. Their rust encapsulator is really more of a rust-preventing primer, as it prevents rust creep but builds like a primer does. The chassis black is just a top coat to give the frame the factory appearance. Their suggestion seems to be to use all three products consecutively.

I've used the encapsulator and the chassis black, and was happy with the results. I've never used the rust converter - I used a product called chassis saver (don't remember who makes it) that's similar to POR-15 but a little cheaper.

Re: eastwoods chassis paint

I used the chassis paint...My only complaint was the spray cans I bought were the perfect gloss for my application,so I ordered a qt. and it was a lot more glossy than the spray bombs.

Re: eastwoods chassis paint

I used Bill Hirsch Chassis black on my truck and I am quite impressed. I sandblasted my frame and primed it first.

In fact the whole drivetrain is done in Bill Hirsch products as well, chevy orange engine enamel, cast blast on the pulley's and intake and high heat paint on the manifolds.
