Serial # Location TH400?

I was trying to figure out if the TH400 transmission in my 72 C10 was original. I had the hump off the other day and found the tag on the passenger side of the case with some #s on it. Is this the serial # tag? or is it stamped in the case somewhere?

Thanks

Re: Serial # Location TH400?

The tag decodes the year ...usually the second number is the year.

Re: Serial # Location TH400?

I was told or heard that part of the serial # of the engine and trans should match the vin of the truck. I haven't found the serial # of the engine yet but the casting # I found is correct for a 72 402 anyway (3999290).

How do you figure out if it is a "Matching Numbers" truck?

Re: Serial # Location TH400?

I found T0406TLM stamped on the front pass side of the block on a pad just below the cylinder head. The guide said it should be above the timing chain cover at the center of the engine.

So far : Tonawanda, April 06

Guess I will look for the clock next!
