1972 8"lift I got questions?????
Well I have done about 100 lift kits on 67-72's, but they all have been 6"or smaller. So I have a 1972 k-20 right now with a 6" lift and I want to put a 8" in it. I was going to put front springs in it and do the 2"block in the back since it has springs in the rear, and longer shocks and drop pitman arm. I was wondering if drivelines would have any problems? I know I'm probably going to have to lengthnd the front driveline. I'm going to run 37x13.50x17 toyo mt's on it. Thanx for the help Dana

Re: 1972 8"lift I got questions?????
I`m watching for answers here, too.I`m the same way with 6" being the most I`ve done.My concern is in the front d-shaft u-joint angles.I always figured I`d do a CV @ the axle end.The dbl cardon should be good.May require some clearancing.

Yeah, but that`s a Blazer with coupled t-cases.Won`t be apples to apples. He did do custom d-shafts,so can give good info on that. He`ll prolly see this here.

Re: 1972 8"lift I got questions?????
I have a 70 k10 shortbox I purchased with a 6" lift. Bad steering and brakes included. Everything was stock other than the springs. Now it has a 10" suspension lift, that is about as high as you can go without cutting and turning. Alcan 8 1/2" springs with custom shackles for the other 1 1/2" on the Dana 60 front. Tough Country 6" springs with 4" block (shackle flip to come) on 14 bolt rear. High Angle driveline front and rear, yokes flanges etc. Four wheel disks and crossover steering with a block on the knuckle is a must to run the bigger tires. Doesn't bind at full droop but is close on the front. If you can go high pinion, so much the better. While you're at it might as well get O.R.D.'s fush and rear shackle and all greasable bushings. Not cheap but a good set up.

Re: 1972 8"lift I got questions?????
I'm guessing you could index the X-fer if you run into driveshaft angle problems.

Re: 1972 8"lift I got questions?????
hey guys,
i got 8" skyjacker all leaf on my 71 ke2500. its been a couple years since i put the lift on but ill write what i remember and ill be home from college this weekend so if you need any pic's or measurements let me know. -front driveshaft will need to be lengthened -never had a problem with stock rear driveshaft -if you got extended brake lines from the 6" lift they should still be fine because i think the brake line kit i got was for 6-8" lifts -needed to use a drop pitman arm and raised steering arm and i can barely make a left turn. if i want to do a left u-turn, i need 3 lanes, soon as i get a real job im getting cross over steering any other questions let me know. i usually check this board daily |

Did you re-center your steering after the lift?

Get the wheels straight Turn to the right counting the turns of the steering wheel Turn left, same thing and figure the difference...like 2 to the right/3 1/2 to the left Get wheels straight again You need to take 3/4 turn out from the let to give 3/4 to the right Pop one end of the drag-link turn steering wheel the 3/4 to make centered Adjust drag-link till it fits in it`s hole

Re: 1972 8"lift I got questions?????
I know.I used to.And,even though I`m into 4wds,it`s nice to keep them clean while you`re not playin`in the mud.I have a stone driveway but I`m by the road and that`s paved.
Before I met my wife I lived on a dairy farm in the old place way off the road. You had to open and close the gate by the road, cone down along the creek on the rocky lane, watch for cow pies(14.50s love to fling it),cross the creek,up the hill with a good run up to the house because that was just pasture. You`d park and the house had a fence around it to keep the cows out. They were always lickin`my mirrors and paint.I had an aluminum cap down by the out buildings and the cows knocked it over and walked all over it laying upside-down.My girlfriend drove a`76 4spd Vette w/sidepipes and she`d take forever coming down thw lane.I could take a shower and be dressed from the time I first heard her,til she got there.I like living out away from things, but look at that before I decide to move. When do we get to see the truck? And,which one gets 8"s?
