Tubbed frame anyone?
Well i will be begining to work on my 69'shortbed project/conversion in the next couple of days. I will be tubbing the bed and using a narrowed 9" rear. The big question, has anyone made any mods to the stock frame to clear the bigger tires? I looked around on here but havent really seen any good pics of frames. I want to use the stock one (since i have it) and just do alot of reinforcing and narrow the frame at the rear. I have a few ideas in mind but want to see what anyone else has tried.
Well if anyone has any good sources of info or ideas please share, Im still in the design stage at the moment. The bare frame in my garage is just the the beginning ....

I had 14" wide custom off-set steelies (15x14") on my stock width 68 swb frame. The frame didn't require any mods other than removing the factory bumpstop when it was lowered.

After looking at my other 69 it does look like there is pleanty of room but im afraid i am still gonna go even wider... Im looking at the Mickey thompson sportsman S/R tires 33x22.00R20LT's. I should have included that in my post.. oops. Anyways there will be a significant amount of work to be done back there. Maybe even tube, since i am also considering going with bags as well...

I had 31x18.50x15's. The 22's might require some narrowing of the rails.

I'm kinda at the same point you are bare frame and all. When you say you want to narrow the frame you're talking right between the wheels right? I have sat in my garage for hour's thinking of diff. ways to narrow the rear the easiest way pos. I've even have a set of 31x18.5 Hoosier's mounted on Crager star's that are going to start dry rotting if I don't do something. Do you have your tire & rim's yet

no i dont have the wheels and tires yet but i am pretty set on the mickeys i mentioned above. I guess i just need to get them here and build the truck around them huh? haha...
Luckily all i have to do is the frame and rear end ordel because i will be tearing everything off my 69 long bed that is already done and putting it on this frame. Im sure i will find plenty to do along the way though. The long bed was finished about 8 years ago but i have only put about 6k miles on it since then. Only goes to carshows, burnout comps and the occasional sunday drive here and there.

oh and the reason for the outrageous tires is the engine will be reciving some surgury... by means of a twin turbo.
