Fuel Sending Unit - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys. I am trying to replace this thing but i cant find anyone that has the part. You guys know where i can find one at? I need to get the part ASAP ... this is my daily driver. Would Kragen or Autozone Carry this? They say no.

I bought mine from my gm dealer. I think it was about $55.

I found it on LMCTRUCK.COM but i'm not positive which one i need. My truck used to be a manual transmission, i see an option for sending units for both MT and AT. Also one for 288L and 488L ...which one should i need?

If the guts of your truck are a '72 ya gotta use the '72 sender. Emission stuff. I didn't know there was a differince between MT and AT. Somebody on here alot smarter then me will get ya the answer.

If you call a BB vendor they can hook you up.They will also know which one you need.

A BB vendor? I am going to call the dealer today and see what they say. No one else carries it.

For now i guess i will just have to use the broken one. This is my daily driver so i have to use something.

I looked at a Universal asending unit . At American auto parts.He said it would only work with a certain type of fuel gage. Probabaly was not really a universal then? lol

These guys have everything i need plus some. Even better that they are close to me ... i had no idea these guys were in Fresno, only about a 20 min drive!

Going today to pick it up for 35.00 bucks! Cant beat that!

The difference between manual and automatic trucks is that the automatic has a return line. You need to look at your fuel pump and see if it has a return line comming off it. If you dont hook it up to anything, it will spit fuel all over the place. I highly doubt you could cap it off either, that would probably ruin the pump. looks like you have a manual, so you're probably ok. Just FYI

My truck was a manual .... its now an Automatic. The sending unit only has one line coming from it. I also have an electronic fuel pump. The truck ran great and still does .. i am only replacing the sending unit because the float is bad and the resistor, causing my gas gauge not to work.

That sender you have in the pic looks like a universal one. It should have a fitting for either 5/16 or 3/8 inverted flare nut. Yours has a hose barb. The 5/16 were on 6cyl. and small v/8 eng. The 3/8 were on 350's and big blocks as far as I know. Just mentioning this so you get the right tube size.

Are there any problems that could be associated with getting the wrong size? Smaller size would cause some issues i would assume.

I am just curious cuz i have been having some issues with my truck idle at times. Mostly when she is cold and in gear. Sometimes she idles real low.
