Rear Spring Schackle bushing

I'm putting a lift on my Jimmy, I've got the rear apart. The original rear spring shackel bushings are toast. NAPA can't get them. I called a special spring manufacturer in town, he says he's got the bushings but they will be crushed when pressed into the shackle, he recommends buying new which he charges $45 per side. I see LMC carries them, for much less by the way. Just wondering what others have done? What other alternatives do I have? And were else can I buy them?

Thanks

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

You can get polyurethane bushings that do not have to be pressed in. but you have to cut or burn out the old ones.

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

I bought the whole shackle with the bushing in it from the dealership. They dont look like the original ones but are the right size. And very afordable too.
They are from the 73 and up trucks.

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

Thanks for the repsonses tbreaden and OLDCHEV4X4. I've now looked at the ORD greasable bushings for the shackle and springs. It would be a little more work, removing the old etc., and a little more money. Not to mention having to remove the bushings from my NEW springs, YIKES. But they claim it improves ride quality and articulation.

Anybody using these? Can you confirm the claims? Is it worth it?

I won't be using my rig for hardcore offroad, but I would like the best ride quality I can get, knowing that just lifting the suspension will make it ride stiffer. I'm using the six inch lift Tuff Country easy ride springs.

Thanks

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

Do you have a website for those bushings? I had to burn my shackles off anyway so I am searching for options too.

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

Here ya go!
http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/greasebushings.htm

Taking the shackles off was extremley difficult. Ended up using a sawsall on one end of the bolt and ground down the other end before I got them out. Spent several hrs on just that, what a pain.

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

for the front ones I used 2" x 1/4tk steel , cut them to length, drilled the holes, and welded a brace in the middle. And you wouldn't have to have the brace. I just wanted one.

Re: Rear Spring Schackle bushing

Years ago, I knew someone who made (he had a lathe) teflon bushings. He claimed they were really great.
