Steering gear adjustment
My 72 has power steering, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the bolt on the top of the steering gear is an adjustment. If so, which way do I need to turn it to take some of the slop out?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

adjustment
there is an adjustment, but it will only eliminate some slop.
there is a jam nut that holds a bolt with a hex hole within it. loosen the jam nut turn the bolt clockwise just until you fell resistance the back it out 1/4 turn. tieghten the jam nut then test drive to make sure it feels "right". if not readjust until it does.

Somethign that helps, is to have someone in the drivers seat that knows what a good box should feel like. Have them turning the wheel back and forth in the slop area gently. (engine off) Have them do this as you are tightening the gear.
If you over tighten it, you well destroy the box in short order. |
