rear hatch opennings

anyone swapped out stock hatch hinges w/ gas shock type???
1969 burban w/ clam shell style.

No,but wondered about it.I wonder if you can get them the right length with a heavy enough pre-load.Most lift hatches that use those are full hatches (longer)and either fiberglass,glass,or just much lighter construction.There may be a compatable unit.Finding it is your first challenge.
