OK all - in looking for trucks I have found out some neat things. In the suspension territory, I found that I pretty much want a 3/4 ton truck. What I don't know about is spring type. I'd like coil springs. So which trucks came with coils and which trucks came with leafs? Are they different for short beds, for longhorns, for chevy vs gmc?

Any info appreciated.

no, its not a stupid question, I would like to know myself.
My GMC has leafs in the rear, but its been shortened to a SWB, and I've always wondered if they even offered leafs in SWBs (60-66).

Here's what I've heard whenever this question was asked before on the forum. This is all that I know.

Chevy's came standard with coil, but you could get leaf as an option.

GMC's came standard with leaf, but you could get coil as an option.

Go figure.

That's what I've always heard too. 2wd Blazers (69-72) and Jimmys (70-72) always have coils (unless it's a converted 4x4). All 4X4's have leafs. Not sure about 60-66, but I think they were all coil.

Was any specific spring type tied to the capacity of the truck? I know all Longhorns were leaf and they were 3/4 or better.

I have seen 3/4Tons with coils (2WD), so capacity isn't tied to spring type.

And my GMC has coils, but no option on the SPID, so I personally believe GMC/leaves is a myth, but it could be true, just not in my case.
