Grill swap on a 71

I recently got too cozy with the tailgate of an 02 Burb and I need to replace my grill (and bumper, and weld up the frame where the tow hook "sectioned" it - ouch). I am currently running a stock grill shell that the PO trimmed and installed an aluminum tube center into. My 1st choice on the repair would be a swap to the better lines of a 67 clip, but that's not gonna happen due to the price. I prefer the earlier grill with the wide center bar to the stock 71, but what I'd like to know is:

1) will the earlier grill fit?

2) If it does, what would be required to complete the swap? The bumper is toast as well, so I may be fabbing a bumper or replacing wit a stocker. I could do with or without lights, so the in-grill lights in the earlier grill could serve for signals.

Thanks,
Herb

Front clip parts are all interchangeable from 67-72, you just have to have
the required parts to do it. To go from a 71 to a 67 you will need a 67/68
Radiator support, 67/68 left and right fenders, different hood latch, and a
67/68 hood. This is the basics, there is also a gravel pan under the grill &
bumpers are different as well as the outer brackets. I think that is all of it.

Thanks for the reply - that laundry list (plus the required paint and possible bodywork) is why the 67 is off the list. The earlier grill I meant was the (I think) 69-70 one with the horizontal bar, but the same outer trim detail. What would need to be changed to swap that unit in (like the lights - do they mount in the grill or on separate brackets)?

I wish I could come up with the scratch for the 67 front-end swap, but the availablity of older decent parts in yards around here is pretty low. I may just start collecting the odds and ends for a later time. Maybe in a couple years when I tear into the rockers....

Thanks,
Herb

Re: Grill swap on a 71

For a 69/70 swap you just need the inner and outer grill assembly, the parking
lights, front bumper w/out the lights, and the outer bumper brackets, that's it
I think, maybe the hood latch assembly, maybe not. That one always gets me.

Just the grill assembly, inner/outter and center brace.
Same/same on the hood latch.
