My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

Finally picked up the truck last Saturday. It's a 3 owner '72 with the original paint that I have slowly been buffing out. Installed the ECE 3.5/5 drop today and I have to say that I am REALLY enjoying this truck. So much so, that I'm selling my '97 Chevy truck. Wheels/tires are next. I did notice a vibration that feels like it's coming from the driveshaft when first starting out (after the drop). Do you guys think my pinion angle might be off a bit now?

Anyway, here is the teaser pic and a link to the rest at the bottom.

Looks so much better, what a difference huh?
Yea, might be needing the shim to correct the pinion angle.

Re: My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

Thanks guys.
I'll check out the pinion angle when I get it aligned. Won't be until next week though since I'm going out of town tomorrow to get the wheels on my GN powdercoated.
See Ten, what events do you guys usually attend? I go to a bunch of local shows/cruise ins, but the only big event that I usually get to hit is the Buick nats.

Re: My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

I try to hit the cruise in at Canton when weather permits. It's usually good for 500+ cars and trucks. Cartersville also has one that brings out a couple hundred a month. I saw this morning that Atlanta will have a Goodguys this year in June. I would think that you're close enough to hit the Chevy/GMC nats in Maggie Valley as well. I don't do a lot of shows but I really enjoy hitting the bigger cruise nights in the area.

What tire sizes are you running front and back and what offsets are you using on the rims?

i like the wheels it has on it now. looks like the rear could use another inch or two. adding a couple lowering blocks would be easy to do.

great lookin truck. looks like you are doing well buffing out the paint.

Is that side view with the 3-5 drop? If so, what else do you have to change? Did you keep the stock shocks?

Unfortunately, the truck was sitting on a incline when when I took the pics. The driver's side sits a bit lower than it looks there. The passenger side is more indicative of the 3.5/5 drop. The ECE kit came with springs, KYB shocks, front spindles, rear shock mount relocators, and their Super Track Bar.

Re: My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

You shouldn't need to mess w/the pinion angle on such a mild drop. I've got 6" drop on mine (not counting the lowering blocks) w/no vibration issues.

Check the u-joints.

Re: My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

Some guys seem to get by with out shimming the rear. I had to shim my '71 with a 5" in the rear.

Nice truck. Sits good. You going to keep it basically stock? That's the great thing about the '67-'72 trucks, they look good restored or modified.

Re: My new truck and a 3.5/5 ECE drop

Nice looking truck. I put the same kit in my '72 and the only vibration I've had was a worn out U-joint last fall. Maybe the 3 piece drive shaft on the lwb is more tollerant of drop, tho.

What size tires you running on the front?
