3rd brake light

Anyone have one on a 60-66?

I want to do this, and was curious what it looks like, and what to use.

Re: 3rd brake light

Anyone?

I bought a universal led one on e-bay. It looks good, almost like it was meant to be there.
Now I just have to mount and wire it.

Re: 3rd brake light

Never tried it on your model truck, but on my '71 Cheyenne i converted the cargo light to a third brake light.

Re: 3rd brake light

Well, I got it mounted and wired tonite, and I'm very pleased with it, it is quite bright, and doesn't stand out, especially at a distance. very sleek

I have some LED tailights from musclerodz on the way too, can't wait to get those on.
Heres some pics.

Re: 3rd brake light

Thanks! ...Just ran the power wire to the brake switch...tied in with the wire opposite of the constant hot. (in my harness, the white wire is what I tied in to, and the orange is the constant hot)

You can probably ground it using the mounting screws, but I went ahead and ran the wire to the dash ground on the steering column.

Re: 3rd brake light

I like it, been thinking about installing one on my 71 while I'm in the process of getting the body prepped.

umm, the gasket keeps all water out, I only drilled three small holes, no cutting here, also sealed the holes with silcone, no rusting here. I wanna make this thing as safe as possible, whats wrong with that? and I want to protect my investment, whats wrong with that? I'd rather not get hit in the a$$ end, and lose my truck, and the money I've got in it (insurance wouldn't give me jack squat for it). I'm 18, and broke.

huh? My truck definitely is not a cancer magnet, nothing that a grinder wouldn't take care of.

Re: 3rd brake light

That looks real nice, im likin the led style lights now, i have led brake lights and instead of a 3rd, i got a ful length bed light bar, have u guys ever seen those. It does brakes and turn signals, but there a little more expensive, like 50 bucks. I like the way that one looks, does it point up or down at all, cause the sheet metal there is curved right?

Thanks, I have it pointed ever so slightly down, which works great because it iluminates the curves above and below.

If you had a thicker gasket, you could could straight on, but I decided to mount it up on the top curve just a little bit just to make it easier to mount and keep it water tight.

And just what is wrong with being safe?

I think it looks good. I'm planning on doing the same thing with my '58.
