Has any one else tried to make there own cowl hood,I have extra hood so I thought I would give it a try as up here in canada they want 750.00 for one.

I have often though of doing that!

I will definately be watching this one for the details and outcome. Any ideas yet on the treatment you will be doing at the opening at the back of the hood? That is one area that I have not thought through yet.

IMO it might look better if in the front where the cut begins to gently roll it up, somethin like 1/2" to 1" so that it doesn't look like a wedge (the angle won't be so much)

Just a thought. The hood takes a lot of abuse (thermal expansion/contraction, beating/slamming, and road and engine vibration). Make sure you weld the new pieces together carefully, such that it requires minimal body filler or else the cracks will show up and make short work of your masterpiece.

One other thing, my cowl hood is a metal box that is attached to/sits on top of the existing hood. As such it collects rain and then the next time you lift the hood, you get a nice dose of rusty water all down the back of the engine and firewall. Looks like your design might not have that problem. 'Thought I'd mention it so just in case yours has that potential, you can avoid it now rather than fixing it later.
