Need To Remove Some Paint

I got a console this weekend out of a 75 chevy this weekend and it's in really good shape. the only thing is they spray painted it white and it looks pretty rough. anyone know any kind of remover that will take it off without hurting the plastic???

Re: Need To Remove Some Paint

think the best thing to do is covering it in vinil and leave the paint where it is .
if it not bonded too whell you could try soapy water or degreaser on a rag and rub it off but anything else prolly will attack the plastic
i tried sanding but it got me a lot of small barbs on the plastic that will show after paint

Re: Need To Remove Some Paint

I would get some paint stripper and test it on something similar first. Most times I have used it I had no problem with it damaging plastic. Thats why it is in a plastic container alot. You may also ask a local paint store if they could recommend something.

I sand blasted mine, and then used a spray bomb sealer. if you don't use a primer or sealer, then the spots that went all the way through on the lid will show through the paint

Re: Need To Remove Some Paint

I have heard that brake fluid works well of removing paint on plastic - but test it first. I have not tried it.

Castrol SuperClean also removes loose paint - I have used that one, but wear glove it you like the skin on your hands.

Re: Need To Remove Some Paint

I used a product called Tail strip paint stripper from advance auto. It worked very well and did not harm the plastic. I have tried some other paint stripper and had no luck with them.
