Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

It can be a real mess for sure.
The do it yourself kits are not as durable as the professionals like Line-X or Rhino. Depending on how you plan to use your bed, a professional job might be the best bet.

Done in a less than a day and you're good to go

i have done it and agree on the durabilty. i wish i never did it. it would have been better sprayed on for $190. i tittally regret doing this and dont look forward to the day i try and scrapr this stuff off. spend the extra 140 and have a rhino liner done professionally

1 more thing the rhino's are able to be ainted to match

Not to hi-jack, but what's the going rate for a linex or rhino job compated to doing it yourself for under $100?? Lets just say for a swb fleetside with a steel floor??? $400??

In SE Michigan, both Line-X and Rhinoe get about $425.00 to do a short fleetside bed under the rail (the only way to go).

That's about what I figured. Now that the Z71 is paid for that's on of the things on my list for it. And yes, I'd like to do bed rail caps with an under the rail linex job.

I'll be doing a wal-mart job on the 67. The bed will never be used to haul stuff, it's more to hide the dents and dings I didn't have the time or patience to get to.

Sounds like my GMC. I bought the factory bedrail caps and had a Rhino liner done two summers back - long overdue

Same here. I rolled on Herculiner in my '01 GMC. I followed the instructions precisly. Never again. Messy as hell, not very durable, even after rolling on 3 heavy coats, it shrank enough after about 6 months that you could see the original paint underneath the bed liner. Save your money. Have it sprayed.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

A few maybe 8 years back I did a roll on Durabak liner. Cheap!!!! Thin....Didn't last! I have had Linex and Rhino over the years and I'd pick Linex out of the two. I now own a Spray-In bedliner shop in Denver and we shoot GatorHyde. Pick what you like. I would reccomend going with a Hybrid formula polyurethane/polyurea that goes on hot and High pressure and dries in 3-6 seconds.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

Hmm. I guess I'm the only one who has done this and it turned out decent? My dad and I rolled his 05 Duramax and it turned out halfway nice. I mean it has the normal wear and tear, but not down to the paint. THe paint isnt showing through or anything either. If I did it again though, I'd have it sprayed. It's just so much easier. Cleaning and prepping the bed is a PITA and we did it in 110 degrees. Sweat = bad for cleaning bed.

I sprayed the frame and underside of my previous truck with the Dupont brand. It came out real good. Bought the special sprayer at Napa.it screwed in the gallon jug. I liked it and will use it again. Never used the herculiner stuff.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

My local paint store (Fox Valley Auto Paints) carries a spray in bed liner kit with the gun for about $125-140 depending on whether you choose black or color match. They told me this is what all of the local paint shops use for spray in bed liners.

My 67 is painted 99 Lincoln Silver. I went with the color match. Directions called for two coats with an hour between coats. I can't tell the difference between my bed and a real Rhino lined brand bed. Mine is tough as nails. After this experience I came away thinking anyone would be crazy to pay the $400 plus.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

ive used the herculiner i got for a gallon for with the rollers and stuff for like 50 bucks... i primered the bed really well before i did it, and its held up very nicely i got three or four thick coats on it with the gallon. i dont ever put anything in the bed really except the spare tire occasionally but i did have a bunch of 2x4s and ply wood and it didnt scuff it. if you do it right it seems very durrable. thats my opinion. but i would rather have a rhino lining or linex to slide cinder blocks or something accross the bed floor. but hey, thats what the work truck is for

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

I did the interior tub of my Jeep with Herculiner about 6 years ago. it has gotten a couple small scratches and has lost the shiney black sheen it once had, but overall, it's doing great for a $100 and 1 day investment. The base was yellow, so bleed through or cracking would be very evident and I've seen none.

BTW - the Jeep was done from under the cowl to the tops of the bedrails, passenger footwells, sidewalls, door lips, tailgate interior - the whole inside tube surface - was all one gallon.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

I used Dupli-Color and turned out nice for $50.00. I don't plan on doing any heavy loading. Just wanted to get the bed looking half way decent. Has held up without any chips or shinkage. Was easy to roll on & did 2 coats. Hard part was the prep work.....

I did the whole underside and interior floor of the '56 Bel Air with Herculiner. It worked out well for me, seems to have stuck pretty good too. I wouldn't recommend rolling it on the bottom of the car while lying on your back. Ask me how I know.On a side note the barber did a pretty good job cutting out all the chunks stuck in my hair!

I used the same Duplicolor stuff on the interior of my FJ40. The best part about it is that you can buy the same stuff in rattle cans ($7 or so) for touch up and those hard-to-reach areas. It's definitley not as thick/tough/resistant as a urethane liner, but it was cheap and it's thin enough that I didn't have any problems bolting everything back together when it was done. It is definitely not resistant to brake fluid, but has held up well to every other kind of abuse. I wouldn't haul 2-man rock on it, but it looks nice and hasn't sun-faded that I've noticed.

There's a running joke on another BBS I frequent that has eventually been shortened to "And don't get Herculiner on your hootus." Apparently it takes a long time to come off - not that I know anything about that

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

I guess I could show the Wal-Mart spray can one I used on my tailgate. I'll do the rest of the bed when it gets warmer out. It probably won't cost me more than $30, but it will never be "put to the test" either. I also coated my blazer tank with the same stuff. It's almost been a year and it's holding up well.

I'll probably pony up the $$$ for my Z71 'cause that bed gets worked over pretty hard at times.

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

I sprayed mine with liner exxtreme off of e-bay. Cost was about $400 for enough material to do 4 vehicles. I did my truck bed, and this spring I am spraying my neighbors truck bed, and my car trailer. It came out pretty nice, the kit included two spray guns and everything else needed. I will edit later with a pic....

Re: Roll On Bed Liner, any One Done It?

Hmmmm,I'll be replacing the inner fenderwells on my 68 in a few weeks.I have been thinking about having the replacements done in liner on the wheel side.I'm thinking it wwill help keep the dents/dings down and also quiten the noise some.
Not meaning to hijack but any thoughts on whether it will do much good? Also should I try to get a liner shop to shoot them when they do a bed or just use the roll on?
