Quick Engine Timing Question!!

350 engine. #1 piston at tdc (right side looking at engine. rotor on #1 plug, but which rocker is up, first or second? Trying to get it back in time before the install since I had the dizzy out and installed pulleys and think I turned the engine a couple of times. Thanks in advance!

Re: Quick Engine Timing Question!!

Neither rocker should be up if correct.

Re: Quick Engine Timing Question!!

THanks for the link. As I was doing it I remembered a trick I was taught and tried it. I wadded up a piece of suran wrap and stuck it in the #1 spark plug hole. As I rotated the engine on the compression stroke it popped out the piece of wrap. I took a look at the rotor and it was at #1 position, and neither rocker was up, so I had it right. THanks for the link though, it was informative!

Re: Quick Engine Timing Question!!

I would not turn the engine over with the key while the suran wrap it in the hole. If you were on the wrong stroke it would be sucked in, NOT GOOD. FAQ section has alot of good tech. RJ22
