Tailgate Latch ideas

I need to latch my stepside tailgate. As you can see it's already painted. Lets hear your ideas. I do not want to use chains.

Re: Tailgate Latch ideas

I used to use carabiners on my 81 stepside.

i found a couple lightweight aluminum ones that were rubber coated, so they didn't mar the paint, or make alot of noise.

Re: Tailgate Latch ideas

The guy I bought my truck from had welded the male end of a seatbelt to the tailgate and screwed the female end to the bed. Looks really cool but sucks sometimes to open.

Re: Tailgate Latch ideas

If it is hardly ever opened, get some stainless allen head bolts, and some nuts for the bottom side.

Re: Tailgate Latch ideas

You can add these, but the install might mess up the paint some...
