Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
Any one ever add power windows to their Blazer? If so, which kit did you go with. I am not sure if I am doing this or not, but it is a thought.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
I've thought about it. If I do, I'll put the switches in that use the original window cranks so it will look stock.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
There are add on kits available. You can find ads for them in most of the Classic Truck Magazines.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
The factory window cranks as switches is a cool idea. My main area of concern is that with out the top on, that the window would over travel its track. I am not sure if that is even possible, but is something that might be a problem.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
I do like the thought of that, although I like the look of the vent window. I'm curious also if anyone has done it?

Eventhough it's powered, the window mechanism will only travel so far.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
I installed the A1 power window regulators and Auto-loc crank switches in my '71. They work great. It's funny, but for all the work that I put into the resto of the Blazer... they ohh and ahh under the hood... but it's the power windows and crank switches that really puts a smile on their faces.
Here's a link to the how-to: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=153317 If you decide to go that route, this place has the best price I could find on the crank switches.... about $20 cheaper per pair than Summit. The Car Shop

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
Did you have to do any modifications to the wiring harness or fuse box to install the PW kit?

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
Hey Bouncy,
When I built the Blazer I had so many modifications to the wiring it would be hard to list them all. I started with a Painless kit and tweeked it from there, adding lots of relays and fuses for the H4 headlights, backup and neutral safety controller, dual fans, power door locks, alarm, 700R4, etc.. I integrated the MPFI and Vintage Air wiring and the relays that went with those too. The power leads for the window regulators came right off of the Painless kit so that part was straight forward but I stubbed out additional window control wiring to my console. The plan is to mount stealth window switches inside my center console ash try but I just haven't gotten around to that part yet. Here's a webshots link. If you look up the 'Assembly" photos there are a lot of good shots of the wiring harness and fuse box. http://community.webshots.com/user/71restorod Jaros, Thanks for the props. The A1 regulators are a deal at $250 but the crank switches are like gold at ~$90 each. I highly recommend the A1 regulators for any '67-72 truck owners. They work absolutely great. The windows are faster than those in any of my new cars. Resto

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
Thanks for the info. I'm not sure I want to put in a new harness because my truck is so very original. I go back and forth on modifying or restoring. I've done a couple minor mods, like putting in the cupholder that replaces the ash tray, stealth stereo hidden in the console and the LED tail lights from MuscleRodz.com, but all those can be swapped back fairly easy. Power windows and door locks would be great, but when it turns into a weekend driver, I'm not sure they will be necessary.
By the way, your rig is beautiful. I didn't realize you had done all those mods or what you started with. Execllent work.

Re: Anyone ever put power windows in their Blazer
I love mine I can open and close the passenger side window without losing site of the road.
I ran a separate circuit with an in line fuse. I did not run mine through the key (I know safety) but I have no small children. I wanted to close or open the window key on or off. I got mine on ebay. Cannot remember the brand. |
