Sitting on the tires

First time in 2 years she's sitting on the tires. Just mockup rims and junk tires. As you can see the doors are next. I just finished rounding the bed corners and you can see my column drop that will be finished to look like the vintage Hildebrand 4 hole gage panel to go under the dash. IDIDIT column and plain vinyl covered wheel. Enjoy.

Re: Sitting on the tires

My friend round his bed corners its a nice little mod. He used some 90 degrees exhaust tubing. Your truck is looking nice and I know what you mean about having it sit on all 4's, it makes you feel like you are getting stuff done. It looks like you have some nice work space I wish I had it. Nice work man

Re: Sitting on the tires

Looks good I like the bed mod. Are you going to put the vent windows back in or going 1 piece windows?

Re: Sitting on the tires

One of my favorite trucks on this site. It's going to look awesome whenever it's finished. What do you have in mind for paint, wheels/tires, etc? Also, I really like the bed corners and the extra storage compartments in the lower section of the doors (just kidding....)

Re: Sitting on the tires

Looking really good Bob! I to like the bed corners and I'm planning on having the same thing done to mine. If I may ask, how did you get the rounded corners? Did you use 90 degree exhaust tubing like Kabwe's friend did?

Re: Sitting on the tires

You guys are too kind!

At first I just rounded the corners in one plane but the rear corners didn't match the top of the tail gate so I cut and welded to make them rounded in that plane too. I left the front alone so they matched the top edge of the front of the bed (square). Hopefully the pictures show the story.

Yes I have a two car garage but my wife's car [U]must[U] be inside every night so I have to keep it clean and organized. Shop vac and a good broom are used alot.

I'm going with one piece windows from Brothers my only worry is if I chop the top then I'll need new side glass. Because of the shape of the window (parallelogram) I think the window slides up and down in the lower door at a angle and when it reaches the top it pivots level. If the glass is the stock height it can't pivot...I'll figure it out when I do the doors.

As far as plans for paint etc. It will depend on money. (Doesn't everything?) May have to live with primer for awhile. I'm going for a mid-60's look so I want old school mags like non polished ETs 17"x7" in front and 17"x11" in back. I need as much back space in the front as possible so I can get full lock with it slammed. Rear tires will be 29" tall and fronts will be 26".

So far I have a Fat Man front end with shock waves and a No Limit four link in back with a 3:50 geared posi 9" with shock waves. Willwood 12" discs all around. The frame is fully boxed. Front and rear sway bars. 454 (at least) with TH400. Sanderson headers and 2 1/2" pipes with a X pipe. I've got a IDIDIT column and a Grant wheel. I just picked up a B&M Mega shifter for $100. The bed is all steel with a louvered tail gate and hidden latches. I made my own design offset master cylinder/brake pedal.

Future mods wil include pie-cut hood and sectioned front bumper. Haven't decided on the rear yet. ...and a 3" chop. Still have to build motor, get trans rebuilt, drive shaft, gas tank (under front of bed), air system, wiring kit, etc. I have more pictures if you want them.

Re: Sitting on the tires

Great thread on your truck.

Do you have any 4-link pics/rear end as I'm getting ready to do my truck with 4-link and bags.

Re: Sitting on the tires

Four link pics. I started with the frame sitting on the axle. Actually welded to the axle once I got it positioned. I will have 3" of downward travel at the back. Getting the panhard bar to be level at ride height was tricky.

Re: Sitting on the tires

Good work. My '54 bed ends are a similar finish, like this one I saw at a local show and shine.

They look like '87 IROC wheels.

Re: Sitting on the tires

Yes, they are Z28 or IROC wheels, 8"x16". I have the rears in the front because they have more offset. I bought all new fenders and steps. The firewall and floor are from Direct Sheetmetal with a 4" set back. I added pics of the wheel tubs I made from a pair of trailer fenders, the bed bracing and floors, and the tailgate latch.

Re: Sitting on the tires

Yes, they are 4 3/4" B.C.. Currie axles in back and the Fatman kit (2" drop) up front. I thought I was going to have currie shorten my old axles but I had to buy new ones to get everything to match up with the Wilwood rear brakes...which I already bought.
