Questions: Trim, Neutral Safety Switch, Backup lights.. etc.

Might be too much for one thread but here goes..

1. I have the bottom piece of trim for my truck. I'd like to get it on the truck but I'm really not fond of drilling holes since there are no holes now. Can I use double sided tape or any kind?

2. Neutral Safety Switch. Base of the steering column, has 4 prongs on it with the prongs facing away from the firewall? I testing it with my meter last night and not getting anything when the truck is in park or neutral. If someone has a picture of this Neutral Safety switch I'd appreciate it. I found multiple posts on a search but not a good picture really. I also see it in the wiring harness diagram. I just want to make sure I'm testing the correct thing. There is also a 3 pronged connector next to the steering column with the prongs facing left. I don't know what that is either

3. Last but not least.. what is the connector and bulb I need for the backup lights. Anyone know off the top of their head so i can find it quickly in the parts store tonight?

Re: Questions: Trim, Neutral Safety Switch, Backup lights.. etc.

What are you working on specifically? 67-72 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with an automatic transmission do have a neutral safety switch, but I do not have a picture to reference you with. I am sure someone here will.
As for the trim, there are plastic snap in fasteners that attach most of the 72 trim on top and bottom but you should get ahold of a LMC cataqlogue with a picture reference of where these are used. Metal clips with flared nuts are still utilized at the ends of most of the lower molding and even a few sheet metal screwws at the very front and rear.
As for the bulb question what are you wanting to do with this. Replace the back up light bulb?

That's just it. I DON'T want to drill holes in the doors or fenders. I just can't bring myself to do it

I just put in the rear wiring harness and there is a green wire with a tube shaped rubber connector. does the bulb plug directly into that or is there another piece I need? I haven't gotten the bulb yet, going to get it this afternoon and want to make sure I don't need anything else

You'd be O.K. with doubled sided tape on the trim. I've used the 3M stuff and it holds like you wouldn't believe. I had to replace some trim with that stuff on there and had a heck of a time removing it. That's what the factory used on some of it anyways.

Re: Questions: Trim, Neutral Safety Switch, Backup lights.. etc.

The NS switch is also the backup light switch also.

There are 4 prongs like you mentioned - 2 for NS and 2 for BU.

NS prongs are on the right side looking at them. One parallel over the other. Purple wires go to them. Doesn't really matter which way. One goes out to the solenoid when key in start position. Adjust for only Park and Neutral.

BU prongs are on the left side at 90deg. to each other with a non-tilt. On a tilt they are side by side. Not-tilt up and down prong is LGrn wire and horizontal prong is DGrn. This should be in adjustment when the NS is properly positioned.

The BU bucket has a rubber covered end that connects to another rubber end(male and female). If you take out the BU bucket you can probably probe and find the end you need. Another way is to remove the sidemarker to get additional clearance. The bulb is a single filament bulb - 1156(?).

Re: Questions: Trim, Neutral Safety Switch, Backup lights.. etc.

On the note of NSS: would a 71 3 speed column have a NSS setup from the factory?

Thanks.

I don't believe so b/c it's not an automatic transmission. I've been known to be wrong though
