Big blocks and long water pumps
Is it possible to use a long water pump on a big block? I want to run a serpentine pulley setup from March performance which requires the use of a long water pump. I spoke with technical support and was told to measure the distance from the front of the engine block to the radiator see if the dimensions are within limits; however, I do not have the core support or radiator installed yet. Will this setup work?

Re: Big blocks and long water pumps
The fan clutch will not fit with the long water pump, you may have to go to an electric

Re: Big blocks and long water pumps
I agree, tried it with a stock 89 setup and the mech fan was not happening. From the fan mounting flange of the short pump to the rad core it's about 4.5in. I think the long pump is probably an inch longer at least.

Re: Big blocks and long water pumps
I don't know about the serpentine set-up but I have a long pump on my 72.
