Salvage Yard Pictures- Part 2

Well, here is "The Rest Of The Story". When The owner of the salvage yard called me yesterday morning he told me I had two days to get what I wanted off of the trucks in the yard. The first three pictures below is the area where all of the trucks were located. The next two pictures show where the trucks are located now. Needless to say I have been working my a$$ off the last two days.

These pictures show the carnage. I salvaged as much as I could but there was a lot more good parts that I didn't have time to save. By 3:30 Friday afternoon they were all crushed. I could have cried…..

I will add to this thread when I get the parts off the trailer and out of the truck plus the parts I brought home yesterday, and take pictures of them. That probably won't happen 'till Sunday though.

The only two '67-'72 trucks that were not crushed were the green cab and the white one ton.

I even had today off and could have come up to help ya.

It's to bad he crushed them. I would have gladly picked up 2 or 3 of them and parted them out. Figure he got $150 a truck to crush them... i would have gladly paid $200-$250 a truck.

I edited my second post above to add that the green/white cab and the white one ton escaped so far. I told him if he crushed the green/white cab I would haunt him the rest of his life.....

Thats a shame. Ive beed trying to find good sheet metal for mine for a few years and there are people crushing parts in way better condition than mine.

I think I just need to move out west and start over....

Oddly, the Fairlane 500 is still sitting there. I am not sure why.... I am going to run over there this morning and try to talk him out of the green /white cab, I will ask him about it. It looks like a really nice car.

Criminal and Stupid. Why would someone not list them for sale for a week on a site like first and see how much they could make. What is the point in building a collection of mostly 1 type of vehicle if all you are going to do is hoard it and then destroy it. Probably one of the best salvage yard collections in the country for these trucks - gone.

Tell our "Friend" that he has pissed off some really good people. Crushing is the DUMBEST thing there is to do. How much did he get paid for each truck? He could have made a lot more I'm sure if he would have sold them to people who need them. What a shame.

it has happened over and over again , it just blow's me away that this could still be going on with all the stuff like this on ebay selling everyday !!
here I am working my ass off trying to get my c10 painted and some idiot is crushing thses truck's he is an idiot for doing that !

well hopefully the ones that were cruched were full of body dents at least truly a shame to see those go tho, im sure even if hte bodies were not worth using, their frames engines and such would have still been usable.

either way, still a shame to see vehicles that old go to the crusher when they would easily make project vehicles (or part vehicles to help our projects along)

i wish i just had millions to burn, so i could scour the country saving all the 67-72s i could, and stick them in a giant warehouse and wait for ppl to come get them

The problem is these guys are getting around $8.00 per hundred pounds or more, Thats in the neighborhood of $350 to $400 per truck. not to mention thats cash in hand now as oposed to waiting for someone to come along and buy a piece here or there. Im highely agenst crushing but unless we we walk in with 5 grand oe so and take it all in one fell swoop there going to keep doing it. Not to mention zoning laws not allowing most people keep a bunch of vheciles sitting around. David

$.08 per pound???I thought it had just shot up to,like,$1.50-under $2.00 per 100#.Which is double what it`s been forever.
I guess when you`re ignorannt enough to only look at one short term aspect of something it makes sense.It`s gone up because China wants it,which hurts us more in the long run.It doesn`t take much to sell these trucks/parts.Most people gather the stuff fot that reason in the first place.Sell the crusher and buy a computer.Go on Ebay and sell it for 10x as much and save the crusher cost.There`s plenty of disposeable vehicles out there for the crusher`s appetite.Just plane dumb,unless you`re dumb.

I have taken two vehicles to the scrapper in the last few months (trust me nether one is going to be missed by anyone) and i was paid $7.00 per hundred #. coupple that with the place i went is in the business to make money, and you get a better price when you have a large quanity and they can crush them on your site, and the fact that there is a new push from over seas to get more scrap. i figure this guy got atleast $8.00 per hundred pounds. It's hard to convince greed and quick cash that some things are worth saving. David
