weird option ?
I bought a small lot of truck parts today and I picked up this glove box door that has an option I have never seen listed on a glovebox sticker before. It is the 2nd option on the left side. I hope the pics load.

Re: weird option ?
Sounds like some sort of service plan, or fuel economy device? Throttle regulator? Just a guess.

Re: weird option ?
I found YF3 as the heavy Chevy package on a 72.I have a Red Book for reference and it's not complete or entirely accurate.I'll try to look closer later.

Re: weird option ?
I couldn`t find it.But,all the "Y" codes were model options.Like,CheyenneSuper is YE3.I wonder if it was a credit for bed-delete.They didn`t generally do that until the late models, just my guess.

Re: weird option ?
I don't know if this is relevant but GM still uses this code for an option pkg.

Re: weird option ?
It's simply a marketing promo designed to keep the factories running and move vehicles off the lots in the 71 model year. Build a bunch of similar vehicles with no options other than some bright-work and pinstripes to "dress" them up (Cheap to do without much extra labor). Price them low and get your dealers to buy a bunch of them to put on the lot. Then support your dealers by building a marketing campaign around the "fear" of the day, which was inflation. GM figured not only could they move the vehicles but gain some marketing good will at the same time.
To understand this you need to understand the economic climate of the day. Here is an excerpt from the cover article in Time magazine in Dec 1970: Quote:

Re: weird option ?
Hello, I just bought a truck, actually cab and frame, But the owner gave me the vin plate from the door jamb and the sticker from the glove box and it has the same model # and options as the sticker you showed. Including the inflation fighter. It is also a 71 shortbed.

Re: weird option ?
I have a glovebox off of a truck I parted with the same option...
'71 Longbox 2wd 307 3-speed, there wasn't much special about it other than it looked rather similar to swiss cheese (pretty holely) and helping complete my truck.
