I skinned the inside of my bed this weekend. The top rails were just hammered, and the floor was too. I wanted to fix them right, but my budget and schedule doesn't allow for completely dis-assembling the bed and starting over. And every other bed I found was in as bad of shape as mine is. So here's hat I did.

Here's the new stuff,

New floor pieces,

New side pieces,

Cleaned and undercoated inside,

Filled Marker lights, and Reverse lights,

I didn't get to carried away trying to make the seam filler pretty, as I'm goin' to Line-X the whole thing anyway. This is the first thing I've ever tried like this. And I realize now I severely need better welding skills. But I think it's going to look pretty good when the bodywork gets done (next weekend). Will post more pics as it progresses.

I ilke it. Should have a real nice look when you get it line-x'd. Just make sure it is secured very well so it does not vibrate on you. How about a better pic of the top rail now that it is capped. Let me guess HVAC for a living?

Those are all the pics I have right now. The top was bent over with a brake, and stops short of the radius on the outer edge, and is stitched with a mig. And the metal is 18ga galvanized. I ordered it to be raw steel, but the metal shop made a mistake and I took it anyway. Made for a little messier welding, but I don't think it will hurt anything.

And yeah, I do HVAC for a living.

Not my X-mas bonus, but kinda. I got a very good deal on it due to the amount of stuff we buy from them. But they did tell me that it would have cost $300 with tax if someone just came in and ordered it. I spent $175 on it. Basically, I got the shearing and braking for free and only paid for the metal. I would have done the braking myself, but ours is only an 8' brake, and the pieces needed to be 100" long to avoid seaming it.

It was a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. But I knew if I got in a hurry, it'd end up rattling like hell. 200rivets, 1/2 role of wire, and about 50 screws later I figured it wasn't going anywhere. I'm anxious to get the body work done, and get it back on the truck Just to get the overall feel for it. I actually entertained the thought of using wheel tubs to cover the fender wells, but it just aint in the cards right now. Maybe later.

Yes I did cover the stake pockets with it. When completely done, it will blend right in with the bedsides. And hopefully will look like it's not even there until you look in the bed.

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape. If a hammer doesn't fix it, you have an electrical problem!
