numbers match

I've heard the expression "numbers match" does this mean that the original motor body and transmission are in this truck, or does it mean that the original body, and the transmission and motor are of the same size and type as what the truck was build with???? This is something that I've been wondering about, for some time Anyone!!!!
Thanks marvxyz1

Re: numbers match

It mean the body, motor, tranny. and the rear are original never been removed.

And body as in the numbers on the body match the motor tranny and rear.

If the car was in a wreck its still numbers matching, But a numbers matching unwrecked vehical is nice to have.

Re: numbers match

I agree, numbers matching doesn't mean much unless you own a muscle car or or an exotic car...for our trucks, it really doesn't increase the value...even for the most rare of combinations.

Re: numbers match

Maybe some day it might mean something, but now it means nothing. Most buyers would rather have a newer motor. Since ther were very few true high performance motors installed from the factory in most cases it's just another motor.

The guy that I bought my 77 from kept saying it was a "numbers matching" truck. I told him that was not a very good selling point since the original 350 only had 160 hp....

Re: numbers match

hopefully, someday it will mean more than it does as far as prices.it does in muscle car world.right now, like it or not these trucks are still abundant and easy to find cheap ones.although it is getting harder to find nice ones.gm made and sold a whole bunch of these back then.
