U joints 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton
anyone know for sure if 1/2 ton use same or smaller U joints than 3/4 ton, i know there are different yokes for tranies and rear ends cuz of this, trying to find the info out and i forgot the numbers that describe the U joint sizes, the coloradok5 guys know this stuff, i think 1310 is 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton i dunno, and 1 ton i dunno, 1350 is largest though

all 3/4 tons ive had had a bigger ujoint,but you can buy a adapter/conversion joint to hook it to a 1/2 drivehaft.if this is what your using.i was working with a Dana 60 and a 12bolt.

Yeah, me too. That larger U-joint in the back is the only one that's special for 3/4 ton as far as I know. I remember, because the parts store that I bought my U-joints through accidentally pulled ones for 1/2 ton, and they all fit except for the back one. Turns out the front 2 are the same for 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. I had to go back and have them special order me a big one. The U bolts were another story all together...

thats interesting., i would think GM owuld have made all three joints in the shaft the same series, IE 1310, 1330, or 1350

I can say for 100% sure the old longhorn had larger U-joints (all 3) than theyu GMC. Plus, the parts store originally gave me 3 joints that were too small, and a c-bearing that was nothing like what I needed.

I just did my u-joints. i've got the eaton rear and a th400 tranny. i had 3 big ones. 1350 or whatever the largest cap size is.

According to the parts books & computer at the local parts store, my '67 C20 takes one 1285 and two 1350s. My Chevy-printed '67 shop manual says the same thing.
Bull. I have 3 1350s. Come to think of it, I have 1350s on my RV. Weird. ------------------ 67 C20 '78 400sb 0.030" over, 9:1 cr, CC Xtreme 4x4 254H, port-matched '69 882 heads & stock cast iron intake, rebuilt Q-jet, Summit headers (1 5/8" primaries), true dual 2 1/2" glasspacked exhaust, NP435CR trans, 4.57 Eaton rear end. It's a decent-looking work truck. No top-end, but it's great off the line. '69 International Loadstar 1700 school bus converted to an RV. Working p/s (only took three years and three owners to replace the belt & a pressure line), low-compression 345 (176 certified net hp @ 3800rpm), single 3" exhaust w/custom cherry bomb muffler, NP435 trans, two-speed Eaton rear end, very warm & rodent-free heaters. Wow. This is strange. My truck's got the original TH400 in it, and original HO52(72?) axle. The rear U-joint is huge, but the other two are smaller. The center support bearing AND the U-joints all looked original when I pulled them. Maybe I'm wrong?

3500, ok, thats largest common ones, then there 1410, etc, but thats under the 1 1/2 ton trucks and bigger
new69, sounds likw you have 3/4 ton axle and 1/2 ton driveshaft, my shaft and Ch465 is all from a 68 3/4 ton and it has the 1 3/8" caps u joints and yoke, and the rear end is the original 1/2 ton 12 bolt axle and has the tiny little U joints.. all seems right on this end regarding all this, i now have new carrier bearing installed as of tonight(thanks GMC PAUL) and new tranny yoke U joint to install soon and then the driveshaft(thanks CPNE), install radiator support, front clip and put one of my stock aluminum 4 bbl intakes on the 350 and connect engine up and do brakes work all around the truck and see what it will do, oh and install steering column, roof lights, remove mirrors, and install exhaust of some kind(open head pipes will work for now) and remove bed temporarily or bolt it down with some metal in the laid on the floor since floor is rotted away got some truck building work cut out for me now.. thanks guys! ------------------ Randy- Lincoln, IL r68c30@hotmail.com 2177353230 -71 C-10 350/CH465/3.07, assemble it, yeah right, that'll happen in this world,(not) -84 Z28 Camaro 5.0L 700R4, 3.73, beater, paid way too much for it like an idiot,, -84 Firebird SE 2.8L T-5, rod knocking, dammit,, -82 Firebird 350 4bolt (TBL)/TH350, not running, dammit... buy/sell/hoard/trade most any GM vehicle parts of any kind -parting out: '81 Cutlass Supreme Brougham *Paint is overrated © RSS Enterprises 2000 |
