Brake Upgrade

Hello

I am in the process of putting discs on the rear on my 82 1/2T. I started thinkin what can I do on the front on the truck. My truck has a J50 Brake code thats what it says on the build sheet. The only thing that I have found out is that I can get 1.25 rotors. Well I would like to find either bigger piston calipers or even some aftermarket ones does. Would calipers from a sub be bigger or the same. I have done one thing to it tho, I put the hydroboost on it off of a sub. Any suggestions Thanks

Re: Brake Upgrade

For my '79 C10 I used the J70 master cylinder for a big-block '79 K30 and a brake booster off a mid-'80s diesel truck, on the spindles I have stock half-ton rotors and calipers, the brake lines are completely independent bypassing the stock proportioning valve - the second time I floored the pedal wit the engine running I blew the rear brake line, so now I'm driving only on fronts, even like that and with 32" tires the truck stops pretty much on a dime. I'd highly recommend that you ditch the stock vacuum booster and install a hydroboost system, it's just sick how strong and responsive it is, and it's pretty much a bolt-on. As a matter of fact I like it so much that once I get my truck running right again (waiting on a carb) I'm gonna look for a way to install a hydroboost system in my Lincoln too
