$500 bought a running 1985 2wd shortbed with a valid state inspection. Fortunately, I wasn't buying it for the powerhouse 327 that the owner claimed it was powered by because it turns out it's a tired 305 with a pretty street dominator carb and intake and Edelbrock valve covers. The deal-maker was the rust-free bed floor and cross sills that are hard to come by in the northeast.

One question: What gears is a 1985, 305-powered shortbed likely to have?

It is hard to say. My '86 305 came with 3.08 gears. Mine gives the gear ratio on the sticker in the glovebox. Yours might as well.

Agreed our 86 k10 had a 700r4 and 3.08 gear ratio with a 305.

Our 84 c10 with a th350 or 350c and a 305 has 2.73's

My 85lwb had 3.08's before the upgrade.

i got my 85 for $900 but it sure wasnt a donor truck. Its my dd
any way my truck came stock with 4.3L v6, 700-r4 tranny and 3.08 gears.(now has 3.90)
