I bought a Dana 60!
A guy I met wheeling last weekend just called and offered me a complete front Dana 60 w/4.10 gears (exactly what I need) for $800. AND I passed! As far as I know its still on the Spokane Craigslist FYI.
I had the green but I guess I'm still gonna hold out for a complete 1 ton crew cab that I can build a tow rig out of (after swapping Dana's). I'm sure I'll regret this....I might already.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
That is a great deal..I paid 1100 for mine and it was missing the Ring&Pinion, but that alowed me to choose my ratio so..worked out for me just fine.
A couple of years ago I passed on a 1ton pickup being sold for 700bucks..the guy insistead it was a 3/4ton but it had a D60 front and 14FF rear so...he was confused and didn't know it....

Man....Go for it.Buy your tow rig later and keep that all 1 ton.Maybe you`ll never get a tow rig.Do you need one or is this anticipating building your Blazer beyond streetability?

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I will have a dana 60 rear available soon, when I swap it to a 14 bolt. Is running down to Boise an option? Dana 44 front coming available too.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I love the drive from Spokane to Boise. But, Im talking about a front Dana 60. My blazer already has a basically all new (hubs, rotors, calipers, bearings, ect) 8 lug Dana 44. Thanks. Tell the folks at BUCK'S 4x4 in Boise that "General Store-John" said hi!
Thanks,

I could have gotten a couple of K30's now for cheap, but they always had running issues, and I don't have a suitable place to tear them apart at. And then there's the whole "leftover immobile carcass" thing, as well. Lucky for me I am already covered as far as the D60 goes, but if you snoop around you can still snag deals.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I wonder if the gentleman from "D-town" is confusing front and rear D60s? Rears are a dime-a-dozen around here, but fronts are a different story. There is a bunch of savy 4x4 guys around these parts who buy them up whenever they can. Hell the one I just bought was one of three that a friend went up to ALASKA to get!

I did mean rear axles. Sorry for the confusion. And if you want to drive to D-Town, you can have my rear D60, but somehow I don't think it'd be worth it D-Town means Doylestown....your quintessential wide spot in the road with 1 traffic light. Oh, and welcome to the one ton front club...don't have mine installed yet, but it'll happen soon.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I busted the Dana 44 last weekend so the decision was made for me. There is now a pile of Dana 60 stuff in my garage.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I beat on that Dana 44 for a couple years with no breaky, also no front locker. The funny thing is my Warn hubs had those so-called 'hub fuses" in them, which are supposed to cause a designed weak point so they break before a more expensive part (axle, u-joint) breaks. But NO, I busted a quality HD Spicer axle u-joint instead.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
Judging by all the pics you post and the fun you have in your K5 - you will put a Dana 60 to good use. Looks like your Dana 44 did a good job of persuading you that now is the time to make the upgrade.
I picked up an 85 1 ton crew cab back in November and it has agreed to cough up it's front axle for my 69 - won't get to that project for a while. I will be interested to watch your swap. I'm wondering if the stock front brake hard lines will mate up with the Dana 60's brake lines or if there will need to be some adapter fittings.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
I plan on putting all new calipers, rotors, hubs, bearings, u-joints AND a lock-right locker in it and thats a financial "challenge" for me now. But I'll keep ya posted on this thread. I might start fabbing up new shock mounts for it tonight.

Heres a couple shots of the progress on the new "backyard engineed" front axle shock mounts.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
Both were trashed. PO had used one as a mounting point for a lift chain when loading it. The other was busted and scabbed back together. Might as well do a good job building new ones while I have the chance. Besides I could afford $2.37 in steel right now. I cant afford $320? for calipers, rotors & bearings until payday.
