Steering Box Upgrade or Stock

I have replaced every part in my steering setup and I still have a 1/8 of a turn in slack when steering. So I am going to break down and buy a new power steering box, is there an "upgrade" box available for us? Or maybe a box from another truck that is better.

Thanks,
Ryan

If I remember right . Flaming River puts out a box for these trucks and they are available in 3 or 4 different ratios . They are a little pricy at about $500.

I stongly recommend against any quick ratio gear box on these trucks go with a stock ratio box.

Theres no reason to have one it's not a nascar truck and it never will be.

For every day driving in town and on the hi-way it will be way too touchy and you will not be able to relax & enjoy your truck.

Re: Steering Box Upgrade or Stock

An 1/8th of an inch in the steering wheel is normal on these old truck
if you have a 2WD, you can have up to 1/4" of play in the idler arms, and still be with in GM spec

My truck does the same thing, and every joint has no play, and the box is fine....it is a 4WD

As for the quick ratio, I recommend staying away from that....as stated above
That steering box is turning alot of linkages, and weight...as quick ratio will just be a pain to drive with. you not driving a sports car....it's a truck. These things corner like tanks, and it'll take lots of $$$ to get it to corner like a corvette

I was not asking about a quicker ratio box, just one that may have been smaller, more durable, etc. Makes sense about the quicker ratio though.....but its not a 1/4 or 1/8 inch of play, it's 1/8 to 1/4 turn of slop.....I guess it is time for a new box. Whoever had the truck before me has broken an allen wrench off in the set screw on the box.

I wasn't saying anything about getting a Quick ratio box . I was just pointing out what they had to sell .
