need help

what are torque specs if there are any?on pre loading bearings in the front hubs of my 88 burb.i'm repacking and replaceing bearings, races in the hubs of my 88 burb[1/2 ton 4x4].need to know bout preloading the bearings. Re: want to know -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a procdure and there are torque specs, they are different for the inner and outer spindle nuts. Hopefully someone else can post up the specs and procedure...I'm at work right now. __________________ 85 Chevy Suburban 3/4ton 4x4 with 6.2L diesel & SM-465, Warn Premium manual hubs, & Wild Country 33x12.50x15 tires 84 Porsche 944 80 Ford F-100 67 Suburban 82 Suburban: now a parts vehicle 71 C10 1/2ton: RIP Re: want to know -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i put new bearing ,races in my rite front hub because i thought they were bad.but after i put it together,went for a ride still making same noise.it sounds like either something is rubbing or grinding noise,but it stops when i put on the brakes.and also it doen't make any kinda noise when going in reverse.also the hub is hot. not like the left side which is cool.HELP this is driving me crazy.don't know what else to do.thats why i'm asking the experts.i have a 88 burb.also when i put it together i tightened up the inner nut till hub wouldn't move then loosened till the hub would move a half a trun when you spun it.then the outer nut,i tightened up to 35-40 lbs of torque with my torque wrench.HELPPPPPPPPPPP |

i'm not sure on "specs", i do it by feel---been doing them nearly 30 years.
heres my method--i tighten the inner nut real tight and rotate the hub/rotor several times to squash out any excess grease, loosen the nut, retighten again and rotate a few more times, loosen again. now tighten very lightly-basicly hand tight with the spanner socket. install the washer making sure it lines up on the pin on the inner nut. install the outer nut and tighten it down using a long ratchet or breaker bar. thats my method and i've never had a bearing failure. hope this is clear enough to help.

sorry i couldn't help, that is a strange one. are the races tight in the hub? i've seen a lot of races that spun in the hub allowing the hub to wobble a little. not real common but if a bearing has ever spun on the spindle that will allow the hub to move too. wish you were closer to me, i love a challenge of finding weird noises.

yeah i had to drive the races into the hub with a tool that i have. so they are tight.pulled it all apart while ago and everything was like it was suppose to be ,so i'm back to sqaure one again.thanks for all your help jerry.

it sounds like a bearing going bad special-k but i just replaced all that yesterday.when you put on the brakes it stops making that noise.
