Hello
im new to this site im from San Antonio, Texas and i got a long bed 68 chevy c 10 and i have been restoring it lil by little, anyhow i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on replacing my inline six engine with a 350 and what kind of parts do i need to adapt to my mannual tranny, thanks for any help, AND IT WILL GREATLY would be appreciated

Assuming that you're going with a pre-1987 350 engine, it's quite an easy swap.
The flywheel off your inline 6 will bolt to the 350 as long as it's a 250 inline and not a 292. A 292 uses larger bolts so the holes will be too large. The starter will work too. Of course since you're reusing the flywheel, you can reuse the clutch and everything straight onto the 350. You can install the 350 onto the stock inline 6 frame stands, again assuming you don't have a 292 six in it now. You'll unbolt the rubber motor mounts off the 6 cylinder and bolt them to the 350 with the 3 supplied holes on the 350 block. Everything lines right up. Then bolt it right down onto the inline 6 frame stands. If you have a 292 six, you'll need the right side frame stand from a 230 or 250. You'll have to fabricate a longer rod to connect the pedal arm to the carburetor. The six cylinder one will be too short. I've done the swap and reused the 6 cylinder radiator. If it's a healthy radiator, you can likely get away with running it. I didn't use a fan shroud either. Definitely try it before you pony up the cash for a bigger radiator. You'll have to slightly lengthen the alternator wiring as the V8 alternator position is higher than the 6 was. You can reuse the six cylinder clutch linkage with two mods. 1) You'll need to slightly narrow the linkage with a hacksaw as the V8 sits closer to the frame than the inline bracket did, so the Z bar will be slightly too wide. Usually, 1/2" will do it.Just trim the end closest to the engine. 2) You'll need a screw in pivot ball for the V8 block. GM muscle cars used them, so they're easy to find. Mine came off a 66 Chevelle. It's a real easy one day job. I swapped my six cylinder back and forth for a 350 several times last year (long story). This is the easist way to do the swap. It doesn't require any driveline modifications or anything like that. If you go with the factory V8 frame mounts, it will move the engine and trans about 3 inches forward, so driveline will need to be lengthened. Any more questions, just ask.
