Re: 66 body on 84 frame...........

Quite a few years ago I was involved in putting a 62 short fleet body on a 76 frame. Different body mount brackets for the frame will have to be fabbed. Due to the different contour of the newer frame, by the time we got everything on the 76 frame, it sat about like a stock 76 1/2ton 4x4. Not the suspension, but the body sat higgher on the frame . Definitely not the way to go if you like the lowered look IMO. If it were me I'd transfer all the 84 running gear to the 66 frame. In the end probably not much if any more work, and a better result.

Re: 66 body on 84 frame...........

It's been so long ago I don't remember for sure, but I don't think they are the same. I do remember starting at the front with the core support mount and working our way back. I just don't remember if we raised the core support or not. If you're not in a real big hurry, that truck is still around, and if I see it soon I'll take a peek and let ya know.

Re: 66 body on 84 frame...........

I put my 1961 on a 1979 4x4 3/4 ton complete frame. I used the mounts from the old frame for everything but the cab mounts behind the seat. I had to make a spacer for the front cab mount out of 3" Round stock metal. Overall it is lifted above the frame, but it looks great. The main issue is getting the front end, cab and bed to align up. I used a lazer to line it all up. You probably not have an issue with the gas tank like the 79 has, mine are outside the frame. It is great having the disk brakes and stronger running gear that can still get parts. The steering and power breake unit will fit with some creative work on the firewall, nothing major. You will be able to wire the column by following the wiring directions from both.
I changed to the entire frame down for the safety. I would think twice about swapping running gear into the origional frame! Alot of work and some supporting of certain areas.

Re: 66 body on 84 frame...........

actually the whole front suspension will bolt straight in and they common motor mounts and a tranny x member is 90 from ccp with a 350 400 or 700 r4 mount available and those trucks did come with small blocks and turbo 350's in them or bigger tranny's
