Power brake question

I am getting ready to swap over to power brakes. I have everything I need, but how can I tell if the booster I have is any good? Do I have to put it all together and see if it works or can I assume that if it holds vacuum it is good?

I got this booster off of a '70 1 ton, and it is smaller diameter but deeper (longer?) than most that you see.
