Re: rear end question

Go guys and your dang highways gears! I have a 69 1- ton GMC with 4:10's and apparently there is nothing higher made for it! Anything over 70 and the pistons are swappin' holes... Have a nice day!

Re: rear end question

I have been having the same issues, I need 3:73 gears I bought a set. when I went to replace the set a damn the carrier it self was shot (all gaulded up from spider gears to center pin) so I bought a carrier from another source. well guess what both units together is a miss match. noone will take either one back. so i bought another ring and pinioin to match the carrier. should be here today. also the axles where the bearings ride are shot I mean shot .0025 to .003 grooves in them not a good thing for my likings so now I need new axles. the final source Im using Im alot happier with then the first source I thought would work with me. so the series 2 carrier and the series three, well I think I have pinpointedmy rearend to be a 3 series.I had 3:07 and going with 3:73s so i should go to the parts board and list my extra's lol lesson learned

Re: rear end question

I just recieved a rolling chassis from Cali. That is supposed to have 3:07's and a posi in it !!!! I'm going to be swapping them for 3:73's. So the 3:07's and the posi will be up for sale, if anyone is interested. ( I still need to open up the rear end to confirm what's in it.) The front diff tage says 3:07's.

Re: rear end question

Since it seems that Rob's question has been answered hopefully I won't be lashed to death for hijacking the thread with a newbie question

What is the difference in series 2 3 and 4 rear ends and how can you tell which is which? Also, is anyone series better than another? Thanks.

Re: rear end question

The difference is in the ring gear spacing. I don't know the specific measurments but the 4 series carrier spces the ring gear closer to the pinion center line.

Re: rear end question

So how does a Dana 60 stack up? As strong as a 4 series or more like a 3?
