is it 2wd or 4wd . either way put 3/4 front springs on it and 3/4 tonnn leafs under it.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

i have the big 10 package on my truck right now. it has 8 leafs in the back. they both are 2wd. i didnt know if the 3/4 ton coil was different or not. if so will it fit w/o a problem? the reason i want to mildly lift it is because i got a set of 31x12.50 tires that i want to use. the other route is to do a 2" body lift. but id rather do suspension.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

id say 3/4 no problem but if you try 1 ton i dont think she will work.

So front is the issue not the rear cause you have the 8 leafs making the rear a 3/4 or 1 ton leafs. I think my 1 ton has 8 leafs. THe problem is the front tires rubbing the fenders, if so then 3/4 front should do you just find.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

Isenegger, are ya sure yer truck ain't gonna clear 31" tires as is right now? Here's a good side pic of my Mini-Monster, she rolls on 32x11.5 in the front and 33x12.5 in the rear, there's absolutely no rubbing at any time:

Mini-Monster is a '79 C10 Custom Deluxe, and her rear springs are just 4 leaves each, dunno what fronts are but they hold the frame right in the middle between the control arms bump stops.

Well that's a pic of a half-ton with a perfectly stock rear suspension and only god knows what front coils - my truck came with an I6 engine, it's got a 350 now but by the condition of the front suspension (ruuust!!!) I'm quite positive the coils have never been replaced for heavier-duty ones. So I really have no idea why isenegger's truck with the 8-leaf rear is still riding low enough to not clear the 31s...

I'm running 31x10.5 (a little narrower) on 8-stack leafs and heavy-half front coils. No rubbing, and a fair amount of clearance.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

I ran 31 10.50s on my 76 with no rubbing. I had 8 inch chrome wagon wheels on it, and only had air shocks in back and spring spacers in the front. Only reason for thoose was it was a stock straight 6 and we put in a 350, so it sagged. We had the air shocks cuz it was a work truck and we hauled alot in it.

I know for SURE we DID NOT have 8 leafs in the back, because we had a spare rear end with them on it but ours had like 4-6 whatever it is stock.

Only problem you might hae is the steering on the front, or bump steer, like a bump on hard turn.

Our 86 k10 stock ran 33 12.50's with no rubbing anywhere even off road with no lift or no spacers.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

See that's the weird thing about my truck - it had the I6 swapped for a V8 and it still don't sag at all, and I know coils are original cause there ain't no way in hell they get so rusty if they've been swapped too. Makes me wonder how hight the truck would've been if it still had the I6 in it, probably riding on the upper bump-stops.

About the bump-steer, that can become an issue, I feel it every time I pull into school - a steering stabilizer ought to take care of that, but we'll see about that in the summer.

No by bump steer I mean when you turn the wheels and hit a bump the tires rub.

If it does bump steer like you are saying, where you hit a bump and it jerks the wheel a stabilizer would fix it.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

31-10.50R15's will fit no problem on these old trucks, me and my boss have been putting them on these trucks for years. The original 235/75R15's looked dinky compared to the truck. 31 10.50R15's fill in the wheel wells nice, and look stock

We recommend it as a replacement when doing 4 tires...on this style of truck. the 32" tires I have had some rubbing problems on 2WD's but not a 4WD truck with stock suspension

On a 2wd truck? Good luck with that, lol You might be able to lift it enough for that, but then you'll be riding on yer bumpstops in the front, which is anything but good.

31" tire is not my problem. the 12.50 width is. they are super swamper 31x12.50 tires. i know that they will fit in the back but i know they will rub in the front.

Re: how to get 1/2 to sit up like a 3/4 ton?

on my 76 i took the rear leafs out of a one ton stake body truck and stuck them in there and it gave me a nice rake. I was looking to use the truck for hauling heavy construction debris at the time and it worked well it sat real high in the rear empty

When I was having the tires mounted and balanced I measured them tread width, less than 1/2" difference between the 32x11.5 and 33x12.5 fatties. My fronts have the super swamper design on the tread, and they don't rub. I think because yers are smaller then mine they will clear, even tho they're a little wider, but that also depends on the wheels you're using.

I would also like for my Big 10 to sit like a 3/4 ton. Or possibly make it a 3/4 ton. Does anyone know if you can find a 5 lug 16" wheel to fit or trucks.
