Which engine would you use
I have a TPI 350 and a 6.2 diesel engine and Im not sure witch one I want in the burb. I was planing on a 6.2 with an nv4500 trans but now I have an extra 350 tpi engine and have started thinking the power would be nice. This is going to be a daily driver mall crawler when done my wife would kill me if I took it off road after redoing the body and paint. It doesn’t have to tow any thing I have a D-max for the heavy stuff. I was thinking about putting the 6.2 in for fuel milage but trying to make it look like it was stock. When done the burb will have around 10 in of lift and 38in tires im using an nv4500 trans and 205 transfer case. What do you guys think?

Re: Which engine would you use
That`s tough.I`m considering a diesel swap on my short 4wd project.I`m having second thoughts, too. It will be a fun-cruzer,not a daily driver.I`d like to take trips in it and mileage would be nice.I have an NV4500 for a truckier vibe or a 4L80E for...one-legged driving?I`ll prolly use the auto, only because I`d have to rape a truck I could sell to get the NV4500.
Having a 67-72 4wd with the sound of a diesel would be pretty trick and I`d love the experience. But,it`ll be my only older 4wd and I might miss the badass V8 aspect.I just don`t want it to become a garage queen. No help, right?I`m just contemplating the same thing and I`m an old GM fan, which there aren`t alot.See what comes from the rest of the crowd.Although the 6.2s are no rubber-burner,they have instant torque and will keep you rollin`down the hiway at a your desired speed all day long.

Re: Which engine would you use
I have a 72 Burb and I was thinking of putting in a 6.5 turbo Diesel with a 4L80 trans. I have that combination in my Dually that we use to pull the race trailer and I thought that would be somthing different to put in the Burb. I also have a 350 with a turbo 400 but every body has put those in. We were also considering putting in a dually disc brake rearend just for somthing different. We are planning on lowering it 6" rear 4" front.

Is it a 3/4 ton? You may need the extra beef of a 3/4 ton suspension to hold that combo; the diesel should be considerably heavier than a 350. |

Re: Which engine would you use
Im leaning to the 6.2 there is a little dinner and a fancy seafood place on the river here next to my house and I thought about asking them this week if I could have there old cooking oil if they say yes then the 6.2 wins if not Ill probably keep pondering over it. I built the tpi for my moms 68 firebird and when I decided to take the 383 out of the burb my dad said he would rather have teh carbed 383 in the bird.

I vote for the 6.2 diesel. With that size tire the thing would be a dog with the 350 TPI unless it was heavily modified. You'll want as much low end torque as possable.

Re: Which engine would you use
if it was a newer diesel i'd say do it (unless it was a 6.0), but not a 6.2 or 6.5. i'd say stick with the gasser.

Re: Which engine would you use
I know the 6.2 doesnt have a lot of power but it should have a little better fuel milage and I may make it a veggie oil burner if the greasy spoon down the road will let me get the oil from them. Next I have to decide what I wont to do with the out side. wife said she would like it blue and chromed out but the camo military look it has now has grown on my. so I was thinking running humer beed lock wheels and a cutme winch bumper . paint would be a olive green with black grill black bumpers and the steel humer whells would be black as well. I think Im going to see if i can get the photo shop guys to make me a quick pic to look at.

Re: Which engine would you use
If it will be a mall crawler, the wife won't like the diesel rattle. She may also accidently put gas in it.
