how can i tell if i have a short water pump or a long water pump, any one got a measurement or something? thanks

if you can put your finger behind the waterpump and in front of the timing cover..its a long pump...the short pump is very close to the timing cover

SWP is from the flat surface that mounts to the block, to the nose is 5 5/8"
LWP from block to nose is 7"

On a BBC, LWP is 7 1/4" and SWP is 5 3/4"

Aren't the alt & PS pump both on the drivers side if you have a short WP?
