Cam Bearing question BB402

Been working on my cuz's 71 with a 402 in it . Just pulled the old cam out new one on the way. I was wondering if any one has changed cam bearings with the short block in the truck? If so is there a tool for it?

it's best done on a engine stand with the front and rear freeze plugs removed.. plus the tool is kind of spendy for a one shot deal here is a couple tools

Re: Cam Bearing question BB402

Going to be really hard to do it right. I wouldn't attempt that if they looked ok. The tool would fit if you took the grill and rad. out but trying to line up the oil hole on the rear bearing like that on sbc for example would be next to impossible. You may damaged or improperly install the new ones not being able to see like you should might be safer just to reuse the old ones. I didn't put new cam bearings in my 350 when I did the cam swap. Never hurt a thing and it still runs like a top, that was 4 years ago.

Your old ones will work just fine for a cam change,
